The Malta Association of Urology would like to thank Maltese High Commissioner Professor Stephen Montefort for hosting the Urology networking and social reception at Malta House yesterday.

The evening brought together Maltese urology trainees, Maltese urologists and UK colleagues, highlighting the strong and long-standing ties between Malta and the UK in medical training and tertiary patient care.

It was a valuable opportunity to connect, exchange ideas and recognise the important role UK hospitals and consultants play in the training of Maltese doctors and in supporting specialised care for Maltese patients. 🇲🇹🇬🇧

Our thanks also goes to Mr Keith Pace for helping to organise the event as well as to MDH Urology Clinical Lead Mr Stephen Mattocks and MAU President Mr Andrew Mercieca for their representation and leadership.

The Malta Association of Urology was pleased to attend the launch of the Malta School of Surgery and the signing of the memorandum of understanding on integration into the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP) in Valletta last Saturday. This important milestone will help ensure that local surgical training continues to meet the highest standards, ultimately translating into the best possible surgical care for patients locally.

These sessions highlighted the team’s ongoing commitment to advancing patient care through evidence-based practice and collaboration.

Across the world, men are delaying routine check-ups, ignoring early symptoms, and feeling unable to speak openly about their mental or physical health. These silences come at a cost, whilst early detection and early conversations can save lives.

The Malta Male Cancer Association Conference was an important event bringing together international experts, healthcare leaders, and patients to tackle male cancer issues. The conference emphasized breaking down stigma and promoting early cancer detection.

Key speakers included renowned figures like Professor Hendrik Van Poppel, a pioneer in urological oncology, and Dr. Erik Briers, a passionate advocate for men’s health.

Additional speakers featured Hon. Jo Etienne Abela, Minister for Health and Active Ageing, Hon. Stephen Spiteri, Shadow Minster for Health, Dr. Sascha Reiff, who manages Malta’s national screening programs; Prof Neville Calleja, Head of Department for Public Health, Mr. Simon Bugeja, consultant urological surgeon and member of the new MAU council; and Helen Attard Bason, a Practice Nurse Navigator specialising in onco-urological care.

We heard stories of resilience, felt the strength of community, and got a glimpse of a hopeful future.

This was more than just an event — it was the start of a movement.
