Myths and Facts about ARTHRITIS!

People ask me this common question daily ..What is ARTHRITIS?

- 'Arthritis' is not just one disease, but an umbrella term for more than 100 inflammatory conditions that effect the joints

- The most common symptoms are joint pain, stiffness and swelling. Other autoimmune types cause inflammation not only in the tissue lining of joints but also in other parts of the body tissue

- Arthritis does not only happen in elderly people. Juvenile rheumatic arthritis is the most common type of arthritis in children

- NOT all joint pain is caused by arthritis

- There is no evidence that cracking your knuckles will cause arthritis!

- It is more common in women

- A healthy diet, vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids and turmeric all help to ease arthritic pain

- Wearing a brace for too long can immobilise joints and increase muscle stiffness. Exercise is better!

- Arthritis can be managed with medications and lifestyle changes

⚽️⚽️ THE 3 TOP KNEE INJURIES IN FOOTBALL!!!

ANTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT (ACL) TEAR

👉 The most common major knee injury
👉 More prevalent in females
👉 Athletes are advised to undergo surgical reconstruction
👉 Return to Play may take anywhere between 6 months to a year
following rehabilitation

MEDIAL COLLATERAL LIGAMENT (MCL) SPRAIN

👉 Graded from minor (grade I) to severe (grade III)
👉 Grade I and II typically treated non surgically with
physiotherapy
👉 Grade III occur with other injuries, such as an ACL tear
👉 Rehabilitation takes from weeks to months depending on
severity

MENISCAL TEAR

👉 Range from relatively minor to major tears which can cause
mechanical knee problems
👉 A knee “cleanout” is often required by an arthroscopy
(minimally invasive surgery)
👉 Post surgery players gradually return to play usually after a few
weeks

💪 We provide individual pre and post operative rehabilitation for
these types of injuries and more with a goal to return the
patient to a pre-injury activity level.
