Some days as a Speech therapist and Early Interventionist are more emotionally draining than others. 💔💔
Yet the power 🔋of being able to possibly help someone is felt so vividly on days like today.
I don’t know if I will succeed in providing a voice 🗣️to this little buddy but listening to the voices of children and interpreting silences, screams and cries is what makes every minute of my job worthwhile .
Every scream is a cry for help and having a boy explaining his wishes and showing us how badly he wants to communicate with words is just WoW! Super proud of you boy 💛🧡

Modeling language 🤎🧸

It has been suggested that you "model language" to help your child learn to talk.
Ok, but what does that mean?

Say EXACTLY what your child might be thinking.
Nothing more. Nothing less.

Say the words even though you already know what your child wants... ESPECIALLY if you know what he wants.

Say it several times.
Say it as a chant.
Say it as a song.
Say it with an interpretive dance.

Just SAY it.
Repeat.

Use the functional words 🩵

Learning the words "triangle," "square," and "circle" are NOT the most important concepts for toddlers to learn.

However, toys like shape sorters, puzzles, and blocks CAN help teach important concepts like LIFE SKILLS!

YOU show your toddler how to take the circle piece and mistakenly try to put it in the triangle spot.
YOU show your toddler how to try again and not give up.
YOU show your toddler how to successfully place the object where it is supposed to go! 🏆

Of course, be sure to make appropriate noises and facial expressions as you demonstrate this basic, but very important, life lesson. 😃👏

The O Ball is a great resource to have for kids as young as few months 🔴🟠🟡🟢🟢🔵🟣

Pop in colorful scarfs and have little ones pull out one by one . Besides naming colours you can do peekaboo 🫣 with each scarf
