Solidarity Statement by KSU Regarding the Revocation of IEU’s Licence

Kunsill Studenti Universitarji (KSU) expresses its serious concern regarding the consequences faced by students of the International European University (IEU) following the recent revocation of the institution’s licence. The immediate withdrawal of residence permits by Identità has left students without legal status in Malta, disrupting their ability to reside and work lawfully. This has had a direct impact on their financial stability and personal security.

KSU calls for urgent action to:

(1) Reinstate residence status for affected students;
(2) Ensure the immediate issuance of academic documentation;
(3) Investigate the licensing and oversight process of IEU to prevent a repeat of this situation.

In this regard, KSU emphasises that students must be afforded appropriate protection and treated with fairness. These individuals have acted in good faith, relying on the assurances of a licensed institution, and should not be subject to detrimental measures for circumstances beyond their control.

We stand in full solidarity with the affected students and remain committed to defending their academic rights, urging all relevant authorities to act decisively and responsibly to ensure justice is delivered to those impacted by this academic crisis.

All students deserve security.

👩‍🎓💭 Call for Undergraduate Ceremony Speeches 💭👩‍🎓

Writing a graduation speech is a unique opportunity to look back on your journey at university and share meaningful reflections with your fellow graduates. You might choose to talk about your personal experiences, lighthearted moments with lecturers, or acknowledge the student societies and activities that shaped your time here. Since graduates from many different courses will be present, aim to keep your message inclusive and relatable to all.

If yours is the only submission, the Graduation Speech Board will review it and suggest any amendments if necessary. If there are multiple submissions, the Board will select the most suitable speech based on the criteria outlined in the guidelines:

Speeches can be written in either Maltese or English and should be approximately five minutes long (around two pages long). For inspiration, you can refer to these sample speeches, one in English:

When your speech is ready, please email both a Word document of the speech and a video of yourself delivering it (as outlined in the updated guidelines linked above) to education@ksu.org.mt. Include your name, course, and the words “Graduation Speech” in the subject line.
