Yoga is more than the poses - it’s a practice for how we move through life.
The 8 limbs of yoga come from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and they describe a complete philosophical path.
However, many modern yoga classes focus heavily on asana (physical postures) and sometimes pranayama (breathwork).
But the ethical and lifestyle limbs - yama and niyama - are not always intentionally taught or discussed.
With that said, I always try to subtly integrate the limbs into my classes, whether through themes, mindful language, breath awareness and meditation:
✨ Yama & Niyama – creating a space for kindness, self-awareness, and personal growth.
🧘 Asana – moving the body with intention through our physical practice.
🌬 Pranayama – connecting movement with the breath.
😌 Pratyahara – turning attention inward and letting go of distractions.
🎯 Dharana – building focus through mindful movement and breath.
🙏🏻 Dhyana – moments of meditation and quiet awareness.
💫 Samadhi – leaving class feeling grounded, calm, and connected.
