On this International Day of Older Persons, we honour Malta’s elders; the generations who carried us through war, independence, and modernisation.
Those aged 60–70 helped build Malta’s modern economy, expanding our schools, healthcare, and tourism industry.
Those aged 70–80 were the guardians of independence, working in farming, fishing, and government to stabilise a young nation.
Those aged 80–90 are living witnesses of WWII and the Siege of Malta, whose resilience and stories remain the backbone of our identity.
Today, over 18% of Malta’s population is aged 65+, and their legacy continues to shape our future. Let’s celebrate their wisdom, resilience, and lasting contributions to our communities💙
