#10 Things You Should Know About Acupuncture Treatments
8-What can you expect during an acupuncture treatment?
🎯Needle insertion. Acupuncture needles are inserted to various depths at strategic points on your body. The amount of needles are not set but it’s usually around 5 to 10 needles.
👉Needle manipulation. Acupuncturist can use a variety of stimulation techniques to fine-tune the treatment by moving or twirling the needles or apply heat or mild electrical pulses to the needles. You are supposed to feel a specific sensation called “de qi”, which means “obtaining qi”. The exact feeling varies with people. It is not pain, but a unique sensation of soreness, heaviness, distension or radiation in some direction away from the needle. It is believed that the stronger the de qi sensation is, the more effective the acupuncture treatment will be.
👍Needle removal. In most cases, the needles remain in place for 15 to 30 minutes while you lie still and relax. There is usually no discomfort when the needles are removed.
