ECG testing is used to assess the hearts electrical activity and can pick up a range of conditions including slow or fast heart rates, heart muscle problems including past heart attacks.
Holter monitoring is used to monitor the heart rhythm over a prolonged period of time, usually 24-48 hours. It is performed to investigate palpitations, faints and loss of consciousness and to assess for irregular rhythms which can lead to stroke. It consists of a small unit which is worn on a belt with 5 wires, all of which fit comfortably under clothing and allow you to go about your day normally. The result is issued within 48 hours and is sent to the referring doctor.
