During the recent Sharing Lives Annual General meeting, the first Sharing Lives Committee was officially elected! 💪

This new committee aims to foster co-production and empowerment in teamwork and leadership bringing together both members and volunteers to shape the future of Sharing Lives.

All committee members completed a Leadership Training Course inspired by the EU Project “It Starts with Me”, giving every graduate the opportunity to stand as a committee candidate.

The new committee made up of 5 members and 2 volunteers will meet regularly to plan and create activities throughout 2026.

We’re so excited to see what this amazing team will achieve together! 💫

We are delighted to share that Aġenzija Sapport CEO, Mr. Oliver Scicluna, has been shortlisted for the 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 at this year’s European Social Services Awards. 👏

Mr. Scicluna’s leadership has been transformative for Malta’s disability sector, aligning services with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and driving reforms that empower persons with disabilities to live with dignity, autonomy, and inclusion.

Some of his key contributions include:

✅ Leading the reform of the Personal Assistance Scheme – the first step toward a personal budget system in Malta.
✅ Expanding funding for Independent Community Living, enabling more persons with disabilities to receive tailored support in their own homes.
✅ Spearheading new legislation to safeguard the rights of vulnerable adults through supported decision-making.
✅ Establishing the Transition Team and Deinstitutionalisation Board to ensure sustainable, community-based support systems.

This shortlisting is a recognition of his forward-looking vision, systemic reforms, and commitment to co-production with persons with disabilities.

Yesterday marked the launch of SkillUp, a new service within Aġenzija Sapport, which now includes also the successful Way to Work programme that has been running for the past three years.

💡 SkillUp aims to reach a wider group of persons with disabilities by offering tailored programmes that support not only preparation for employment, but also the development of independent living skills both in a group setting and on an individual level.

The service focuses on four main pillars:

1️⃣ Way to Work – helping participants build employability skills and prepare for the workplace.
2️⃣ Self-Skills – personalised sessions for persons with disabilities who wish to strengthen specific life or work-related skills.
3️⃣ Skills4Life – group sessions that promote independent living through hands-on training such as cooking, communication, and personal care.
4️⃣ SkillUp Awareness – raising awareness among parents, educators, and professionals about opportunities for persons with disability.

This half-day event is open to health and social care professionals, educators, NGOs, caregivers, and anyone working with children, youth, or families. Together, we'll explore how family-centred care can strengthen Malta’s mental health systems, with families recognised as partners, not just caregivers.
