If you really think about it, why do people train (go to the gym, run, cycle, play sports etc.)?
After helping thousands of people start, get back to or peak in their performance and training, I would say the reality is that it comes down to:
-Looking good and feeling better: if you really think about it, we all want to feel comfortable in our skin.
-Damage Control: Trying to undo the symptoms of our modern, fast-paced life-style. Too much time sitting down, processed foods (and too much food in general), alcohol, stress.
-Longevity: I feel this one is deeply linked to fear. A fear of aging, a fear of not being able to be there for our family, a fear of avoidable disease. We all want to increase our health-span and live our lives in the best way possible.
-Mental Regulation - Some call this 'stress relief', others say 'discipline'; the truth is that training burns away anxiety and restlessness and keeps us focused.
What I really want you think about though is: why do most people fail? Some give up half-way, some never even get started but the underlying reason is always the same:
A Lack Of Structure!
1. No data or metrics at the start of the process to know what to prioritise.
2. Not tracking work-outs (and this is the real dream killer). Progress lives in progressive overload, and this can only be achieved through tracking.
3. No regular check-ins, with yourself, your coach or whoever you hold yourself accountable to. Re-aligning with our vision and goals is essential!
4. Not prioritising recovery time. Training breaks us down, it's during recovery that we grow.
At Rise Fitness & Performance Limited and Rise Physio + we've spent the last decade building structure, ensuring that our clients reach their goals and build a stronger version of themselves for the long-term.
