Full morning of entertainment at Dar Annunzjata for residents who enjoyed the cheers of singing and dancing by the talented couple, Lorri and Clyde,
Some of us took the opportunity and did some exercise by dancing to the beautiful music being sang by Lorri and Clyde.
Special thanks goes to our loved carers who were there to encourage us to dance and ensure that we enjoy this morning of entertainment.

Talented residents at Dar Annunzjata.
Meet Teresa Saliba, 82 years from Qormi, resident at Dar L-Annunzjata. As a hobby she enjoys doing marvelous crafts with sequins. It is a very expensive hobby, however, after completion, she gives most of them out, free of charge.
Big well done to our dear friend, proudly known as Ic-Cinella 🙂. Keep it up Tereza Saliba Ic-Cinella!!

Maltese are ageing and over the years to come it is expected that there will be an increasing number of senior adults forming the Maltese population. This is a consequence of advances in medical care and healthier lifestyles which increase life expectancy. Apart from this, the 1950 – 1960 post-war accelerated increase in birth rate is another reason for an increasing average age of the population with the consequence that for the future one can expect the number of senior citizens to increase both in number and in age.
Challenges brought about by this change are various and include the requirement for additional caring facilities that will have to cater for both volume increase and the respective requirements that old age brings about. Moreover, the standard of living of the Maltese populations has been constantly improving and this improvement is expected to be manifested in bettering facilities for old aged citizens.
Dar L-Annunzjata nursing home is being built on a 1000 square meter plot of land meters away from the Tarxien village core. It will have 118 rooms with 230 beds in a medium-rise building with most rooms having an unobstructed view of either Wied Garnaw or the Tarxien village core.
The capacity of the nursing home is over 200 residents and will be specifically built according to national standards. Moreover, the building will have a design and finish which is Dementia friendly and will have the equivalent of one whole floor dedicated to indoor communal facilities.
A roof garden will permit residents to enjoy a stroll or a chat over a coffee and will give the opportunity for relatives to communicate with elderly residents in the open air.
The ground floor will house apart from the reception area, a multipurpose hall and a health centre where both residents and outsiders would be able to avail themselves of the service of medical specialists. It is also envisaged that a pharmacy would complement the health service available on this floor.
Basement floors will be used for alighting and loading of residents apart from car parking. At basement level plans are in place to have activity centres like workshops, music room, Indoor Therapeutic Heated Pool and Gym for use by residents.
The core purpose of Dar L-Annunzjata nursing home is to care for vulnerable people. We are there to nurse and assist the individual in the performance of those activities contributing to health or its recover that he/she may perform if they have the necessary strength, will or knowledge. At Dar L-Annunzjata, care is all focused on the individual’s health and wellbeing and not only the treatment of disease. Hence, individualized care plans based on individual assessments contributing towards one’s physical, mental, psychological, spiritual, sexual, cultural, safety and social needs will be planned and engaged. More so, the concept of active ageing and the potential of any individual will be taken into consideration and promoted.
