St John Ambulance and Rescue Malta - Youth

St. The St John Ambulance and Rescue Youth Section has a proud history of fostering young individuals' skills and commitment to community service.

John Ambulance and Rescue Malta, is a registered non-profit organization that provides First Aid and Rescue Services as well as provides an opportunity for youths to learn first aid, and various life skills, guided by experienced youth leaders. Established on June 6th, 1948, the Youth Section initially began with boys, with the girls joining just a month later. Since then, we have grown into a vibrant and inclusive organisation dedicated to training young people in first aid, rescue, and life-saving skills. This year (2024), we launched our new Rescue program for youth, expanding our training to include comprehensive rescue operations. This addition provides our young members with comprehensive training in rescue operations, enhancing their ability to respond effectively in emergencies. Our mission is to empower youth through education and practical experience, preparing them to become capable and compassionate members of society. We offer a wide range of activities, from first aid training and community service projects to leadership development and team-building exercises. Our programs are designed to be engaging, educational, and fun, ensuring that our members are not only learning valuable skills but also forming lifelong friendships and making a positive impact in their communities. All our programs and activities are volunteer-based, nurturing a spirit of service and commitment in our young members. A tradition of excellence and service that has been nurturing young minds and hearts for over seven decades. Together, we can make a difference! 🌟💚

One of the outings marking the close of Cadet Year 2025 was the opportunity to visit Lufthansa Technik Malta for an exciting behind-the-scenes look into the world of aviation ✈️.

The cadets toured the hangars, saw aircraft undergoing maintenance, touched real aircraft materials, and experienced aviation from a completely new perspective — discovering what happens behind the scenes when we’re not just passengers onboard 🛩️🔧.

They thoroughly enjoyed every moment and were fascinated by all they learned throughout the visit.

A huge thank you to Lufthansa Technik Malta for hosting us and making this experience possible 👏

🎭 As part of our Performance Badge, our badgers recently had the chance to work with Mr. Joshua Grogan, Mr. Joshua Grogan, a dedicated drama tutor with over 10 years of experience in the performing arts.

Through fun and interactive activities, Joshua introduced them to the art of voice projection, breathing, and movement, all while helping them grow in confidence and self-expression. 💪✨

We’re so grateful to Joshua for his enthusiasm and guidance — the session was a real hit with our young performers! 🦡💛

And to wrap up the season, we spent an exciting afternoon at the Obstacle Course Academy, where the amazing team guided our badgers through a fun track full of challenges! 🧗‍♂️🤸‍♀️💪

It was the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer and blow off some steam while heading towards a new scholastic year. 🎒✨

At the end of September, we had the pleasure of welcomingJustin Farrugia, a talented actor, drama teacher, and current B.A. (Hons) Theatre Studies student at the University of Malta.

Justin led our badgers through a fun and inspiring creative story writing session ✍️✨, encouraging them to use their imagination and bring their ideas to life in exciting new ways! 📖💡

A huge thank you to Justin for sharing his passion, energy, and time with us 🙏👏 We loved every moment! 💛🦡

🌟 Junior Member Spotlight – Alexei Sciberras 🌟

Alexei, one of our junior members, recently had a once-in-a-lifetime experience! After two years of preparation as an altar boy, he travelled to the Vatican to serve during Mass and assist priests in their duties. 🙏✨

The highlight? Meeting the Pope face to face during the papal audience. A moment filled with faith, inspiration, and joy. 💛🖤

We’re so proud of Alexei for his dedication and commitment. His journey is a true example of service and faith in action.

🌍✈️ In July, our very own Paola Traxien Badger Leader, Joseph Degabriele, joined 7 other amazing Maltese volunteers from Amigos Malta on a life-changing journey to Iquitos and Nauta, Peru 🇵🇪.

Together, they reached out to local communities with open hearts ❤️ providing essential materials, organising fun and meaningful activities, helping build homes 🏠, and offering support in countless ways.

For the past 31 years, AMIGOS has been spreading kindness and hope through missionary trips in Kenya 🇰🇪, Mozambique 🇲🇿, and Brazil 🇧🇷… and this year, for the very first time, their mission touched lives in Peru. 🌟

👏 We are incredibly proud of Joseph and the whole AMIGOS team for showing that when we give our time, skills, and love, we can make the world a brighter place – one community at a time. 💚

Lat week, our Paola-Tarxien members proudly marched alongside other local organisations in the Korteo tal-Għaqdiet, celebrating tradition, unity, and community spirit.

These moments remind us why we serve; to connect, contribute, and be present where it matters most. 💛

Day 3: Aim High & Explore Deep 🌲🏹🦌

Fuelled by a hearty breakfast, our cadets took on a full day of forest adventures! 🌄💪 The adventure park tested our balance, bravery, and teamwork — from climbing to zip-lining through the trees.

We tried our hand at archery 🏹 (Robin Hood would be proud!) before gathering around for another forest BBQ lunch 🔥🌭

The afternoon brought a scenic drive around the mountain where we spotted wildlife in their natural habitat 🦌🌿

To top it off, we ended the day with a peaceful walk through Polizzi Generosa, soaking in Sicilian charm and enjoying a well-earned dinner in town. 🍝🌙

Adventure. Nature. Culture. What a day!

Day 2: Splash & Sizzle! 💦🔥🍔

Sun, slides, and serious splash power! 🌞🌊 Day 2 of our Sicily adventure took us to the water park, where our cadets spent the day diving into fun. From adrenaline-pumping water slides to lazy river chill-outs. 💥🚀🌀

After a day of aquatic action, we headed back for a sunset BBQ feast 🍗🌭🔥 the perfect way to refuel, relax, and reconnect as a team. Laughter, music, and memories made around the grill!

This week just keeps getting better!

Day 1: Into the Wild! 🌋💦🍕

What a start to our Sicily adventure! After an early flight and a much-needed breakfast stop, our cadets braved the icy waters of Gole dell'Alcantara, a natural gorge fed by Mount Etna’s snowmelt. ❄️🧊 Some even took the challenge up a notch with body rafting! 💪

We refueled with lunch and continued our journey to the heart of the countryside 🐴🌄 To end our first action-packed day? A well-earned pizza night on the terrace! 🍕🌌

This is just the beginning; more adventures to come!
