St John Ambulance and Rescue Malta - Youth

St. The St John Ambulance and Rescue Youth Section has a proud history of fostering young individuals' skills and commitment to community service.

John Ambulance and Rescue Malta, is a registered non-profit organization that provides First Aid and Rescue Services as well as provides an opportunity for youths to learn first aid, and various life skills, guided by experienced youth leaders. Established on June 6th, 1948, the Youth Section initially began with boys, with the girls joining just a month later. Since then, we have grown into a vi

brant and inclusive organisation dedicated to training young people in first aid, rescue, and life-saving skills. This year (2024), we launched our new Rescue program for youth, expanding our training to include comprehensive rescue operations. This addition provides our young members with comprehensive training in rescue operations, enhancing their ability to respond effectively in emergencies. Our mission is to empower youth through education and practical experience, preparing them to become capable and compassionate members of society. We offer a wide range of activities, from first aid training and community service projects to leadership development and team-building exercises. Our programs are designed to be engaging, educational, and fun, ensuring that our members are not only learning valuable skills but also forming lifelong friendships and making a positive impact in their communities. All our programs and activities are volunteer-based, nurturing a spirit of service and commitment in our young members. A tradition of excellence and service that has been nurturing young minds and hearts for over seven decades. Together, we can make a difference! 🌟💚

🌍✈️ In July, our very own Paola Traxien Badger Leader, Joseph Degabriele, joined 7 other amazing Maltese volunteers from Amigos Malta on a life-changing journey to Iquitos and Nauta, Peru 🇵🇪.

Together, they reached out to local communities with open hearts ❤️ providing essential materials, organising fun and meaningful activities, helping build homes 🏠, and offering support in countless ways.

For the past 31 years, AMIGOS has been spreading kindness and hope through missionary trips in Kenya 🇰🇪, Mozambique 🇲🇿, and Brazil 🇧🇷… and this year, for the very first time, their mission touched lives in Peru. 🌟

👏 We are incredibly proud of Joseph and the whole AMIGOS team for showing that when we give our time, skills, and love, we can make the world a brighter place – one community at a time. 💚

Lat week, our Paola-Tarxien members proudly marched alongside other local organisations in the Korteo tal-Għaqdiet, celebrating tradition, unity, and community spirit.

These moments remind us why we serve; to connect, contribute, and be present where it matters most. 💛

Day 3: Aim High & Explore Deep 🌲🏹🦌

Fuelled by a hearty breakfast, our cadets took on a full day of forest adventures! 🌄💪 The adventure park tested our balance, bravery, and teamwork — from climbing to zip-lining through the trees.

We tried our hand at archery 🏹 (Robin Hood would be proud!) before gathering around for another forest BBQ lunch 🔥🌭

The afternoon brought a scenic drive around the mountain where we spotted wildlife in their natural habitat 🦌🌿

To top it off, we ended the day with a peaceful walk through Polizzi Generosa, soaking in Sicilian charm and enjoying a well-earned dinner in town. 🍝🌙

Day 2: Splash & Sizzle! 💦🔥🍔

Sun, slides, and serious splash power! 🌞🌊 Day 2 of our Sicily adventure took us to the water park, where our cadets spent the day diving into fun. From adrenaline-pumping water slides to lazy river chill-outs. 💥🚀🌀

After a day of aquatic action, we headed back for a sunset BBQ feast 🍗🌭🔥 the perfect way to refuel, relax, and reconnect as a team. Laughter, music, and memories made around the grill!

This week just keeps getting better!

Day 1: Into the Wild! 🌋💦🍕

What a start to our Sicily adventure! After an early flight and a much-needed breakfast stop, our cadets braved the icy waters of Gole dell'Alcantara, a natural gorge fed by Mount Etna’s snowmelt. ❄️🧊 Some even took the challenge up a notch with body rafting! 💪

We refueled with lunch and continued our journey to the heart of the countryside 🐴🌄 To end our first action-packed day? A well-earned pizza night on the terrace! 🍕🌌

This is just the beginning; more adventures to come!

⏳ It’s already been a week since we wrapped up our unforgettable youth exchange with Johanniter Unfall Hilfe e.V. Regionalverband Weser-Ems and the memories are still fresh! 🇲🇹🤝🇩🇪

Over one powerful week, we:
✔️ Discovered how similarly we work
✔️ Learned from each other’s methods
✔️ Strengthened our first aid skills
✔️ Cleaned and cared for our shared spaces
✔️ Played, laughed, and bonded through games and BBQs

🏡 From the newly refurbished dining area to team-building activities and cultural visits, every moment brought us closer together — as volunteers, and as people.

💬 What stood out the most? The realisation that this exchange wasn’t just about one week. It’s the start of a lasting friendship and collaboration between our organisations.

To everyone involved — thank you for making this week meaningful. Here's to continuing what we’ve started! 🙌

💦☀️ During the exchange, we enjoyed a fun and relaxing free day together at the pool, a chance to unwind, connect, and build friendships beyond the uniform.

🤝 Moments like these are just as important as the training, reminding us that collaboration is built not only through shared skills but also through shared smiles and experiences.

🎗️ To mark the occasion, each participant received a commemorative wristband. A small keepsake representing a big week of connection, learning, and memories.

🚑🩺 Teamwork across borders in action!

During the youth exchange, our members and Johanniter Unfall Hilfe e.V. Regionalverband Weser-Ems members took part in intensive accident simulation exercises, designed to test and strengthen first aid skills in realistic scenarios.

👥 Both teams worked closely to assess and treat simulated injuries—complete with detailed wound makeup. While some small differences in approach were observed, participants quickly adapted and collaborated seamlessly, leading to excellent outcomes and shared learning.

💡 These sessions were a standout moment in a week filled with connection, cultural exchange, and hands-on experience—made possible thanks to ERASMUS+ funding.

👏 We’re proud of the friendships, skills, and knowledge built during this exchange!

Over the past weeks, during our weekly meetings, our brilliant Badgers took us on a whirlwind tour around the globe 🌍

As part of our Global Badger Badge, our Badgers were randomly given a country and had just a few minutes to teach the rest of us something new—however they wanted! From posters and PowerPoints to songs, dances and even a few surprise skits… they absolutely smashed it.
