The studio values, vision & vibe are the same, but I have a new mission

Story time⬇️

5 years ago, I founded Amplify studio, rebelling against the fitness standards of "No pain, no gain, sweat til you drop, push push push"

🥵 just thinking about those excessive mantras make me want to collapse

At that time, I had a spinal injury I got from a car accident earlier that year, that had left me suffering for months almost bed ridden

I could only walk or sit after I pop a pill or getting wine to cope with the excruciating pain and the doctors I saw condemned me to that pain for life...

Rebelling & refusing to accept this as my reality

I "listened to my body" which led me to naturally self-heal thru movement

So I became a fitness coach to help other women trust, care & honor their bodies which would have ripple effects on their mental + emotional health

And because "Listen to your body" mantra changed my life, it became a philosophy I built my studio on & set trend to

This trend caught wildfire & became the "new norm" in fitness

‼️Now 5 years later

Something disturbs me about the "Listen to your body" dialogue

What I initially started thru my embodied philosophy to EMPOWER women to take their health in their hands

Has now been diluted to a message of disempowerment

Here's how:

"Listen to you body" has become the excuse to excuses 🤦‍♀️😪

"My body feels heavy, so I'll pass"
"It's uncomfortable, so my body says no"

And while I will NEVER agree with using FORCE, GUILT, SHAME, I also don't align with bypassing

Yes "Listening to my body" changed my life

No scrap that - it gave me my life back

BUT❗️

It was not by "I feel something on the surface so I obey to listen to my body to justify blocks"

Because If I had done it that way, meaning I had just "listened to my body" that only experienced pain at that time, I'd still be bedridden today 🤷‍♀️

"Listen to your body" is about knowing how to REALLY LISTEN & deeply understand to honor your body for transformation

That's the nuance, the uncomfortable truth

That's the true empowerment thru your body

That's my new mission

I remember back in 2020 when I spoke about workouts for mental and emotional health, and the power of movement as a way to show love to our bodies instead of punishment.

The reactions I received were blunt, with messages and requests mainly focused on losing weight, becoming skinny, and getting back to pre-pregnancy size.

And you know what? There's nothing wrong with having physical aesthetic goals. But here's the key: it should never come at the expense of your overall health 🌿

Fastrack to today, I've started to see the shift happening. People are realizing that workouts aren't *just* about physical goals anymore.

It's about shaking off stress, decreasing anxiety, fighting insomnia, boosting happiness, and more!

The desire to feel relaxed, uplifted, and empowered is taking center stage. And let me tell you, I couldn't be happier that this shift is finally happening!

It's been a journey⏳It took 3years of being looked at like an outsider, 3years of going against the grain in the fitness industry, facing judgment and being snubbed by traditional coaches who pushed diets and punishing workouts.

I rebelled against the shaming and guilting fitness industry. But I'm proud to say that this shift is what the studio always been about.

A small studio with a big mission: promoting movement for self-care from a place of joy and love.

Carbs are not the enemy!
🚘Carbs are like fuel to your car, they provide energy to your body for all your daily activities including your workout. A healthy diet with the right amount of carbs is crucial for good hormonal health too.

🚩Yep, when we don't get enough carbs, our bodies go into stress mode and release cortisol. And too much cortisol can throw our hormones out of whack, leading to unwanted weight gain, mood swings, leaving you feeling sluggish and tired and even a decreased s*x drive.

Are you still scared of carbs because you think they'll ruin your workout goals? Let's break that myth!
😪Cutting carbs completely out of your diet is like trying to run a car with no gas. It's not gonna take you far and might even damage the engine (your body in this case). Without carbs, your body turns to breaking down protein for energy, which can lead to muscle loss and a decrease in metabolic rate.

So, don't fear carbs! Embrace the good carbs like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains that will give you the energy and vitality you need to crush your workout and your everyday activities. Your body will thank you for it🌻!
