Rise in prevalence in autism

Many people fear that autism has become an epidemic. If the rising prevalence in autism is considered, this concern is understandable.

Increased awareness and the changes in the description and diagnosis of autism are some of the reasons for this. In this article another factor is considered. Less children seems to be diagnosed with intellectual disability. Many children with ASD has the co-morbid diagnosis of lower intellectual functioning.

With the description of autism being refined and the condition better understood more accurate diagnosis is possible.

Another piece in the big puzzle that is ASD understood a little bit better.

The manual that never came with your child. (Jane Jarvis and Debbie de Jong).

This book is absolutely wonderful. I would recommend it for any parent. Especially if your child is in pre- or primary school.

Even though the book is based on theories, it gives practical advice about the sensitive topic of raising children. It covers topics such as positive discipline, setting routine, how to teach your child to plan and organize themselves from a young age, how to deal with homework as well as the TV menace.

I started reading this book and could not put it down. It is also available in Afrikaans.It should be available at all good book stores or as an e-book.
