Many people struggle to stay active simply because they havenโ€™t found an activity they truly enjoy.

The important thing to remember is that you donโ€™t have to follow what others like; physical activity comes in many forms!๐Ÿ’ช

Non-communicable diseases (NCD's) like heart disease and mental health conditions cost the economy a lot.

Different patterns are observed in different regions of the world. However, one thing is for sure: a sick population is financially expensive to sustain, anywhere in the world.

It is estimated that, during the period 2011-2030, NCD's will cost the global economy 30 trillion USD ($30,000,000,000,000). [Source: PAHO]

An NCD is not only a health problem. It is also a huge economic issue!

Most NCD's could easily be prevented though.
For example:
๐Ÿƒ adequate exercise,
๐Ÿšฌ smoking cessation, and
๐Ÿ‰ a healthy diet
all help lower the risk of coronary artery disease (the cause of most heart attacks).

Think about it... If you buy an apple instead of a cigarette, you somehow reduce poverty worldwide.

One of the ways to decrease the incidence of NCD's, and hence their financial impact, is by educating people about them. This is preventive medicine.

Let us make healthy choices. Let us stay healthy.

To educate the patient is one of the responsibilities of a doctor.

We, doctors, see a patient for a brief time, but only the patient knows what he/she is going through. He/she lives with the disease, and, sometimes, distressing symptoms, 24/7!

Active participation of the patient greatly contributes to restoring health and managing chronic conditions.

Sunday last, we celebrated Teacherโ€™s Day.

Very often, when we think about teachers, we think about academics only. However, teachers do much more than these.

For instance, my teachers encouraged me to carry out extracurricular activities, through which I found out that I loved working with people. Later, this helped me to choose a career in medicine.

As an introverted teenager, I did not really have the tools to deliver public speeches or lead my peers. Therefore, my teachers taught and guided me through their knowledge, experience and wisdom.

I am very grateful that I found a mentor, a leader and a master of academics in my teachers, at all levels of my formal education.

Thank you dear Teachers!

Below are some photos that were taken when I was a student at RCPL.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. Therefore, it is not stored in the body and needs to be consumed daily.

The recommended amount of vitamin C to be consumed each day is as follows:
Adult Men: 90 mg/day
Adult Women: 75 mg/day
Pregnant Women: 85 mg/day
Breastfeeding Mothers: 120 mg/day
Smokers: an additional 35 mg per day (e.g for a male smoker: 35 + 90 = 125 mg per day)

Here are some good sources of vitamin C:
