On this very auspicious occasion of Eid Ul Fitr, allow me to extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt wishes to you and your family.

May the unique blessings of Allah SWT fill our life with peace, harmony, happiness, prosperity, love and good health.

May we achieve success and fulfillment in all our endeavours.

May all those who are seeking to conceive, be blessed with healthy children InshaAllah.

May Allah SWT re-strengthen the broken ties between parents and their children, between siblings, between married couples and between relatives and friends.

May Allah SWT allow us to forgive others for their mistakes and allow us equally, to recognise our own mistakes, repent and ask for forgiveness before it's too late to do so.

May Allah SWT accept all of our ibaadah established within the sacred Shahru Ramadwan, augment our Rizq in every halal way possible and grant us shifa-e-kaamila for all our physical and spiritual illnesses. Ameen!

Eid Mubarak!! 💚💚💚

As a woman, routine gynaecological exams are an important part of your preventive health plan. If you’re not scheduling a visit routinely, you could face reproductive health complications that may otherwise be preventable.

The main goal of a routine gynecological exam is to identify potential health issues that can affect your long-term health and reproductive wellness. You should schedule your first visit by the age of 18 or sooner if you’re s*xually active.

This is important because many serious conditions that affect a woman’s health, don’t cause obvious symptoms until they progress. For instance, you can have precancerous or cancerous cells growing in your cervix 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 any warning signs.

Transva**nal ultrasounds are sometimes called “endova**nal ultrasounds” because the device that records images of your pelvic cavity (transducer) is inserted inside your va**na. The process is different from a traditional abdominal ultrasound, where your doctor moves the transducer across your belly to record images.

𝗔 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘃𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗮𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱.

But, an abdominal ultrasound is also an option if a transva**nal ultrasound cannot be done.

A transva**nal ultrasound can be performed to diagnose conditions causing unpleasant symptoms, like pelvic pain or abnormal bleeding.

A transva**nal ultrasound allows your provider to identify:

1) Cysts
2) Tumors
3) Fibroids
4) Polyps
5) Signs of a pelvic infection
6) Signs of cancer
7) Signs of ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage
8) Potential causes of fertility issues
9) If an intrauterine device (IUD) is in the correct position

A transva**nal ultrasound during pregnancy can be performed, especially during the first trimester (weeks one to 12), to:

1) Confirm your pregnancy
2) Determine how far along you are in your pregnancy
3) Monitor your baby’s heartbeat
4) Identify warning signs of a miscarriage or early delivery
5) Identify conditions that will affect your pregnancy plan, like having a low-lying placenta (placenta previa)

During such an exam, the speculum widens your va**nal walls just enough for the doctor to see your va**nal canal and your cervix. Your cervix is the opening between your va**na and your uterus.

The widening makes it easier for your doctor to view your cervix and check for abnormal growths like cancer or other irregularities. A speculum also allows your doctor to take fluid samples to test for infections.

As per the World Health Organisation, cervical cancer is the 4th most common cancer in women globally, with around 660 000 new cases in 2022 only. About 94% of the 350 000 deaths caused by cervical cancer globally, occurred in countries where cervical cancer screening is not performed regularly by the local healthcare facilities.

Thinprep pap test (Made in USA) is a lifesaving screening tool for cervical cancer. This liquid-based cytology can detect abnormal cells in the cervix before they become cancerous.

This procedure ensures that the cells are more readily released into the liquid, capturing virtually all of the cells. This new ThinPrep Pap Test gives a new level of confidence in the reliability of your results.

Vaginal swabbing is a technique to obtain a sample of va**nal discharge for microscopy and for culture and sensitivity testing.

Vaginal swabs are done if symptoms like itching, irritation, a burning sensation, or swelling in the va**na or v***a, pain during s*xual in*******se, pain during urination, mild va**nal bleeding, etc. are present.

The high-va**nal swab is used to detect infections, including bacterial vaginosis, trichomonas va**nalis, candida, Group B streptococcus, etc.

The endocervical swab is used to perform microscopy, culture and sensitivities for gonorrhoea.

Thinprep pap test is a modified pap test (for early screening of cervical cancer) technique designed to reduce some of the technical problems inherent in the traditional type of pap smear.

This procedure ensures that the cells are more readily released into the liquid, capturing virtually all of the cells. This new ThinPrep Pap Test test gives a new level of confidence in the reliability of your results.

ThinPrep Pap method has some significant advantages over traditional Pap smear:

1) Removes contaminants such as blood and mucus which frequently obscure cells in the traditional pap smear

2) Ensures the collection of all cells of the shooting and their proper maintenance.

3) Allows performing additional tests (HPV), which may be needed in the same sample without repeat visit and download.

4) Reduce false-negative Pap examinations.

5) Help to detect accurately early cervical cancer.

In the same year, about 94% of the 350 000 deaths caused by cervical cancer, occurred in countries where cervical cancer screening is not performed regularly by the local healthcare facilities.

Cervical cancer is a cancer that's found anywhere in the cervix. It mostly affects women under the age of 45.

Anyone with a cervix can get cervical cancer.

The cervix is the opening between the va**na and the womb (uterus).

It's part of the reproductive system and is sometimes called the neck of the womb.

Nearly all cervical cancers are caused by an infection from certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV).

It can often be prevented by attending cervical screening, which aims to find and treat changes to cells before they turn into cancer.

Cervical cancer usually grows very slowly. How serious it is depends on how big it is, if it has spread and, on your general health.

🅱🅾🅳🆈 🆂🅷🅰🅼🅸🅽🅶

Men and women come in different shapes and sizes and yet men’s bodies are not classified or scrutinised to the same extent or as commonly as women’s bodies.

Women's bodies start being judged from a young age and become more targeted as they go through puberty. The size of their breasts, their body shape, weight, height, even their hair colour, style and skin colour are all under scrutiny. They are being compared to others and often to some invisible person or standard that does more to hinder their confidence than anything else.

This kind of superficial judgement based on one’s s*x and biological characteristics sets impossible expectations that make girls feel anxious about how they fit in with others, obsessed about appearance and shamed about differences.

Consequently, many women get stressed out as they are being body shamed. This unnecessary stress leads to other hormonal disbalance, to irregular periods, to failure to ovulate (common cause of infertility).

Body shaming needs to stop by all accounts. The so-called "modern" society needs to stop behaving deplorably, be more empathetic and change the way they socially regard women of different shapes and sizes.

🅷🅸🅳🅳🅴🅽 🅲🅰🆄🆂🅴🆂 🅾🅵 🆆🅴🅸🅶🅷🆃 🅶🅰🅸🅽

We know that losing weight usually means eating less and exercising more, but it’s also worth thinking about some of the lifestyle factors which can lead to putting on weight in the first place.

It might be bad habits relating to eating or lack of exercise, or it could be issues stemming from an individual’s circumstances in life.

ℹ️ 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Weight gain is a side effect of many drugs. The most-common drugs that can cause weight gain include steroids, antipsychotic drugs and insulin.

Never stop taking prescribed medication unless your doctor or specialist has told you to. If you're concerned about weight gain, talk to your doctor.

ℹ️ 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽

Sleep is central to good physical and mental health. Some research suggests a lack of sleep can contribute to weight gain by accumulating fats in your body and making you feel hungry.

In one study of healthy men, being deprived of just two hours sleep caused them to crave sugar and eat more of it. Make sure you are getting enough sleep and take steps to remedy the situation if not.

ℹ️ 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 '𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗳𝗮𝘁'

Take a walk down any aisle in your local supermarket and you'll see fat-free desserts, low-fat biscuits and calorie-counted ready meals. Lots of foods are labelled "low-fat" but in fact contain high levels of sugar.

High-sugar foods also contain lots of calories and can lead you to gain weight. For example, a "low-fat" muffin may contain more calories than a currant bun. Make sure you read the labels and look at the overall energy and calories.

ℹ️ 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀

When you’re under stress or feeling depressed, your body releases a stress hormone called cortisol and your appetite increases, triggering food cravings and tempting you to reach for sugary snacks. Do this often, and you may put on weight.

Instead, choose fruit and veg for your snacks and other low-calorie options such as plain popcorn, crackers and rice cakes. To prevent stress from sabotaging your efforts to lose or maintain weight, find ways to cope with stressful situations that don't involve food, e.g. Exercise, deep breathing, yoga or meditation.

ℹ️ 𝗦𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲

Sitting down for long periods, for example watching a lot of television or sitting for hours at the computer, can make it hard to keep weight under control.

While sitting down, many of us consume calories we don't need and find it too easy to snack on energy-dense foods such as crisps and chocolate.

If you're worried about your weight, take part in more daily physical activity - try walking to work, on the school run or to the shops and spend less time in front of the TV or computer.

ℹ️ 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀

Over the last few decades, the size of portions served in restaurants and supermarket packages has increased. A study by the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) found that burgers, for example, have doubled in size since 1980.

Not surprisingly, research shows that when we're given a larger portion, we tend to eat more. Coping with larger portion sizes is a matter of stopping when you feel full.

Eat slowly and you'll have a better chance of avoiding that over-stuffed feeling. At home, serve yourself a smaller portion and think about whether you really want a second helping.

ℹ️ 𝗔𝗴𝗲

Your metabolism slows down as you grow older so it’s natural for your body to burn fewer calories. Ageing also causes changes in lifestyle and you may find you exercise less.

Many people, therefore, make more effort to get regular exercise and follow a healthy, balanced diet as they get older.

18/10/2023

🅼 🅰 🆂 🆃 🅸 🆃 🅸 🆂

Mastitis makes your breast tissue inflamed and painful. You might notice a lump around the sore area, sometimes the inflammation turns into an infection.

Mastitis mainly affects breastfeeding women, usually within the first 3 months of giving birth – but you can also get it if you are not breastfeeding (due to an infection in the breast).

It can make you feel achy and run down, with flu-like symptoms or a fever.

ℹ️ 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀

Usually, mastitis affects one of your breasts, but can sometimes affect both.

Signs and symptoms of mastitis often develop quickly and can include:

a swollen area on your breast that may feel sore breasts that feel swollen, hot and painful to touch – you may also have red patches, but redness can be harder to see on brown and black skin

a burning pain in your breast - you may feel this only when breastfeeding or it may be constant

ni**le discharge, which may be white or contain streaks of blood

a lump or hard area on your breast
feeling tired, run down and feverish – you may have flu-like symptoms

ℹ️ 𝗖𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀

If you're breastfeeding, mastitis is usually caused when the milk in your breast builds up faster than it's being removed.

This creates a blockage in your milk ducts and can be brought on by:

your baby not latching on properly

missing feeds, or not feeding often enough

feeding from 1 breast more often than the other

an injury that damages a milk duct or gland

If you are not breastfeeding, mastitis can be caused by infection. The infection could happen if your ni**les are sore or cracked, or through a ni**le piercing.

ℹ️ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁?

If you catch the early signs of mastitis, it's quick and easy to treat.

If your symptoms do not get better 12 to 24 hours after treating it at home, go and see your doctor.

Your doctor may prescribe a course of antibiotics, which should clear up the infection in a few days.

ℹ️ 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀

The main thing is to continue breastfeeding, even though it may be painful. By stopping breastfeeding, the blockage will get worse.

Even if you do have an infection, breastfeeding won't harm your baby (although your milk may taste a little salty).

✅ 𝗗𝗢

breastfeed your baby when they want and for as long as they want

offer your baby a breastfeed if your breasts are uncomfortably full

make sure your baby is positioned and attached properly. If you need help, ask your midwife, doctor or a breastfeeding specialist

medication such as paracetamol and ibuprofen can reduce pain – although some paracetamol can enter your breast milk, it's not enough to harm your baby

a cloth soaked in warm water and applied to the breast (or a shower or bath) may improve milk flow

breast pain may be soothed using a cold compress - you can use a cloth soaked in cold water

drink lots of fluids and get plenty of rest

❌ 𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧

do not wear tight, restrictive clothes and bras that can restrict milk flow

do not take aspirin

do not stop breastfeeding suddenly – find out how to stop breastfeeding

do not apply oils, soaks or creams to your breast

do not express more milk than your baby needs

do not apply firm pressure to the breast - any pressure should be gentle

ℹ️ 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀

Once it's diagnosed, mastitis is quick and easy to treat. But remember, prevention is better than cure.

The following tips may help reduce the risk of developing mastitis:

if possible, breastfeed exclusively (avoid using first infant formula to top up, or a dummy)

feed frequently and responsively – long gaps in between feeds can create a build-up of breast milk

encourage your baby to feed if you feel your breasts are getting full

make sure your baby latches on properly – try different breastfeeding positions to work out which is most comfortable

wait for your baby to finish feeding – usually, they'll release when they're finished

when you want to stop breastfeeding, try cutting down your feeds gradually – do not suddenly go longer between feeds

avoid wearing a bra or clothing that is too tight and puts pressure on your breasts

27/07/2023

Polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) is a common condition that affects how a woman's ovaries work.

ℹ️ The 3 main features of PCOS are:

irregular periods – meaning your ovaries do not regularly release eggs (ovulation)

excess androgen – high levels of "male" hormones in your body, which may cause physical signs such as excess facial or body hair

Polycystic ovaries – your ovaries become enlarged and contain many fluid-filled sacs (follicles) that surround the eggs

If you experience symptoms of polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS), they'll usually become apparent in your late teens or early 20s.

Not all women with PCOS will have all of the symptoms, and each symptom can vary from mild to severe

Some women may only experience menstrual problems or may be unable to conceive, or both.

ℹ️ Common symptoms of PCOS include:

▪️irregular periods or no periods at all

▪️difficulty getting pregnant (because of irregular ovulation or no ovulation)

▪️ excessive hair growth (hirsutism) – usually on the face, chest, back or buttocks

▪️ weight gain

▪️thinning hair and hair loss from the head

▪️oily skin or acne

▪️fertility problems

ℹ️ PCOS is one of the most common causes of female infertility. Many women discover they have PCOS when they're having difficulty getting pregnant.

During each menstrual cycle, the ovaries release an egg (o**m) into the uterus (womb). This process is called ovulation and usually occurs once a month.

But women with PCOS do not ovulate or ovulate infrequently, which means they have irregular or absent periods and find it difficult to get pregnant.

ℹ️ Risks of PCOS in later life

Having PCOS can increase your chances of developing other health problems in later life.

For example, women with PCOS are at increased risk of developing:

▪️type 2 diabetes – a lifelong condition that causes a person's blood sugar level to become too high

▪️depression and mood swings – because the symptoms of PCOS can affect your confidence and self-esteem

▪️high blood pressure and high cholesterol – which can lead to heart disease and stroke

▪️sleep apnoea – overweight women may also develop sleep apnoea, a condition that causes interrupted breathing during sleep

Women who have had absent or very irregular periods (fewer than 3 or 4 periods a year) for many years have a higher than average risk of developing cancer of the womb lining (endometrial cancer).

But the chance of getting endometrial cancer is still small and can be minimised using treatments to regulate periods.
