I managed a remarkable case this morning involving a gentleman with phacomorphic glaucoma, a severe and rapidly progressive form of glaucoma that can lead to irreversible blindness if not treated promptly.

Unfortunately, his condition had been overlooked at another institution. He presented to me yesterday in significant pain and had been suffering for nearly two months, with a markedly reduced quality of life. This was a case that clearly required urgent hospital admission and emergency cataract surgery.

The patient underwent surgery today at Wellkin Hospital, and by God’s grace, the procedure was successful. He was discharged home the same day in a much more comfortable condition.

Phacomorphic glaucoma is not uncommon and must not be missed, as delays in diagnosis and treatment can result in rapid and permanent vision loss.
