What could be common to these two images?

Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSR or CSCR).

One shows a box, the other shows an OCT scan.

The box contains our latest acquisition: a new laser that can treat CSCR. This will be the first of its kind in Mauritius and officially puts an end to having to make a painful journey abroad!

Here's a sneak peek of what happens in a world class intraocular lens manufacturing facility!

Are lens implants just small bits of plastic?

Are all lenses the same?

Technology, expertise and passion define these little gems.

Yes, we are at Rayner. No, all lenses are not the same.

20th April 2015. The Eye Clinic was born out of the storm that hit the Mauritian economy a few weeks before. It wasn't fun. Life could have been simpler in a purpose-built multi-specialty hospital with beautiful views of the Moka mountain range.

Fast forward 10 years to April 2025 and we've grown into a powerhouse of innovation and technology.

How have we come this far?

We've enjoyed the blessings, trust and guidance of our elders. We haven't been insensitive to those little pearls of wisdom dropped by patients, relatives, carers, family members, and well-wishers.

And at the core of it all?

We believe in making sure that every patient gets access to the best care possible with the best technology available. "This is not available in Mauritius" does not exist at The Eye Clinic. If it isn't here, we'll get it.

We're immensely grateful for 10 amazing years that have saved thousands of eyes and lives and brought immense joy and satisfaction to our patients, their families and us. We're also sorry for those times when our efforts didn't give the desired result. Ultimately, mother nature's will towers over anything that a human hand or mind can plan and do.

Where do we go from here?

We pledge to continue on this journey through thick and thin. We will invest heavily in staying at the fore and pushing boundaries. We will fight to preserve, restore and enhance your sight.

Why?

Simple. Your sight is our pride.

Do you know? The Eye Clinic shares the same technology as the International Space Station for examining the retina!

Our new Spectralis OCT is the world's most trusted and accurate device for studying the retina. We can also henceforth study the tiny blood vessels within the retina without injecting any dye into the body.

As was cleverly put today, we provide a service that is "out of this world"!

Where in Mauritius do you get access to the most exciting, most advanced, technology in ophthalmology?

Over the last 5 years, we've reinvested 43 cents in every rupee spent by you to make The Eye Clinic a powerhouse of innovation.

With this new kit, we up the game.. again.

If you remain unconvinced about how hair dye can be harmful to the eye and to the good your eye doctor wants to achieve during surgery, please watch this clip and share widely!

This was a 4 hour long, very delicate retinal operation combined with cataract removal. Along the way, the view inside the eye became very hazy - like flying or driving through very dense fog.

What do you think was the cause?

Watch.

This patient had applied hair dye freshly. The dye particles were coalescing on the surface of the cornea. So much so that they had to be cleared by a gentle scraping manoeuvre.

Luckily, everything went well. But this manoeuvre had to be repeated several times.

If your kind, caring eye doctor advises you to avoid hair dye before and after surgery, please do pay heed to his/her advice.

It can only be for good.
