Heavy Heart as I gather myself to write on the IVC wall today…
As some of you may have guessed, after 30 yrs, I have decided to ”retire early” from active veterinary life for small animals i.e. at Island Vet Clinic…
Yes,1993 seems like yesterday… young Vet, freshly graduated, ready to take it on and change the world for animals😅!
Started by putting part of my salary away to go walk in poor villages and do free treatment for animals; then was roped in as one of the founder member of PAWS where I helped for many long years and then decided to have a place on my own to dedicate 2 hrs per day to put myself at the service of animals and the IVC adventure started in 2010.
Since then, it has been oh so rewarding for my soul; IVC became the place where I validated myself as a vet; where I felt my real purpose in life; where I made so many friends; where I disconnected and most importantly…where Animals were given a chance UNCONDITIONALLY.
Thank you all for making IVC what it has been…the “regulars” know that money was never important and the animal was at the center. I smile now, reminiscing the “ are you sure you charging enough Doc?” …“Wait what? No fee?”… “ No no no please take this money and sponsor a poor person’s animal”. And all the little gifts, self-made cards, cakes, fruits, veggies, food were worth all the money in the world!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Seeing an animal walk in when a few days ago it was being carried in nearly dying; animals showing so much affection towards me…Best medicine for all the worries and aches of the soul!
It’s been 13 wonderful years putting myself at the service of animals; running the owner-cleaner-technician-veterinarian One-Man Show…and now its time for me to dedicate that time to myself. Will not be active physically but now i will have time for the Mauritius Vet Portal website and will create a booking calendar there for people who would want to “Talk to Dr Sam”…i can advise and direct to colleagues etc. But that’s yet to come…for now, it’s me and my Sam-Time
Sometimes, when we go, we would like to think what difference we have made in people’s and animals lives…No matter what: I do hope I have inspired young vets to take the Veterinary Profession as a noble one; and take it to the next level…because animal lives depend on it.
