🌟 Infiltration for Chronic Pain Relief! 🌟

Successfully performed an ultrasound-guided infiltration at the gluteal medius insertion for a 66-year-old female patient suffering from chronic pain and was found to have tendinopathy of her gluteus muscle everytime she flexes her hip and pain on walking. This precise technique helps in reducing pain and promoting healing. πŸ™ŒπŸ’‰

Technique is to be sure to be in the capsule by hydrodissecting with local anaesthetic solution.

πŸ“’ Medical Case Highlight: Overcoming Acute Renal Obstruction

I want to share an inspiring story of a 55-year-old male patient who experienced a rapid decline in kidney function due to a severe kidney infection (pyelonephritis) that blocked both of his ureters.

πŸš‘ The Challenge:
A standard procedure to pass a DJ stent from below was unsuccessful. This is commonly used for ureteric blockages but was not an option in this case.

πŸ”§ Our Solution:
A percutaneous procedure, accessing the kidney directly. By inserting a JJ stent from the kidney into the bladder, and successfully relieved the obstruction. I had to repeat the procedure on the other side. A nephrostomy tube for security was not placed.

🦠 Next Steps:
Samples for bacteriological analysis was cikkected to ensure targeted treatment. The patient's condition improved significantly within a day, demonstrating the power of timely and innovative medical intervention.

✨ Outcome:
This case underscores the importance of adaptability and expertise in healthcare. Our patient's swift recovery is a testament to the effectiveness of this approach.

Did you know? Every year, around 60 Mauritians are flown to India for treatment after experiencing a burst brain aneurysm (a dangerous ballooning of a blood vessel). This can cost the public fund a staggering minimum of Rs 800,000 per case!

Last year, we welcomed Dr. Abhidha SHAH and Dr. Ravikiran VUTHA, two highly skilled neurointerventionists, to Mauritius. This visit, facilitated by The neurosurgical team, Dr. SHAMLOLL and Nusrat, marks a small step in the right direction!

With the right equipment and expertise, we should aim to treat many of these life-threatening cases in Mauritius! This means faster access to care, reduced costs, and the comfort of being closer to loved ones during a critical time.Nusrat Malik

Here's a story about a woman in her early fifties who had severe hypertension with a systolic blood pressure (the top number) consistently above 220 mmHg!
Even with medication, her blood pressure wouldn't come down.

Doctors suspected a hidden cause: A special X-ray called a renal angiogram was performed. This procedure uses a thin tube and contrast dye to see blood flow in the arteries around the kidneys.

The culprit revealed: The angiogram showed a blockage (stenosis) in both renal arteries, the main vessels supplying blood to the kidneys. These blockages were likely preventing her kidneys from working properly and contributing to her high blood pressure.

A minimally invasive procedure called angioplasty is performed where a tiny catheter was inserted and used to open up the narrowed arteries. In some cases, like this one, a small mesh tube called a stent is placed to keep the artery open.

Positive results: The good news is the blood flow to the kidneys improved significantly! This procedure often helps lower blood pressure and improve kidney function. The woman's blood pressure is now under observation to see how effectively it's controlled.

What this means: This case highlights a less common cause of high blood pressure and how minimally invasive procedures can be used to address it. It's important to talk to your doctor about treatment options for high blood pressure, especially if medications aren't working effectively.

If you know anyone suffering from osteoporotic bone fractures or metastatic bone fractures, you know how debilitating this can be.

Fortunately, there is some hope for Bone Pain Relief and prevent fractures!

This 70yrs old man suffering from with chronic pain with multiple bone metastases in the spine.

A little of bone cement is injected in the affected bones, and outcome can be quite surprisingly quick and in as little as a day as this minimally invasive procedure can offer significant pain relief for many patients. This also consolidates the bone and prevent further collapse.

How it Works:

It involves injecting a small amount of acrylic cement directly into the affected bone under X-ray guidance. The cement hardens quickly, providing immediate structural support and stability to the weakened bone. This reduces micromotion, which is the tiny movement that causes significant pain.

This is a much less invasive procedure compared to traditional surgery and patients experiences a shorter recovery.

Helping Dreams of Parenthood Become Reality

Many couples face hurdles on their journey to parenthood. Infertility can be a particularly stressful experience. Today, we'd like to share a success story that might offer hope.

The Case:

A young couple struggling with infertility sought our help. Upon diagnosis, the male partner was found to have varicocele. This is a very common condition (suffered by 15% of male population) where enlarged veins around the testicles can elevate temperature and decrease s***m count, sometimes causing mild discomfort.

The Solution:

Endovascular embolization of the s***matic cord emerged as the ideal treatment option. This minimally invasive procedure uses a catheter to block off the enlarged veins, effectively treating the varicocele.

The good news? The procedure was performed under local anesthesia, allowing the patient to recover comfortably and return home the same day! We're happy to report very positive results.

What this means for you:

Varicocele is a treatable cause of male infertility. If you or someone you know is facing similar challenges, minimally invasive procedures like endovascular embolization can offer a path towards achieving your dreams of parenthood.

Imagine struggling to walk even 100 meters...

This was the reality for this 55-year-old man and a moderate smoker. His pain wasn't just an inconvenience - it was a sign of something serious: blocked arteries in his right thigh.

The culprit? Atherosclerosis, a buildup of plaque that narrows blood vessels, reducing blood flow. Left untreated, this could lead to unhealing wounds and even gangrene.

But there's hope! He didn't have to give up on his active life. He opted for a minimally invasive procedure called endovascular therapy.

Here's how it went:

Hi blocked arteries is accessed through his left femoral artery (no big incisions needed!).
A special balloon stent was used to open the narrowed sections and prevent future blockages.
Both the superficial and deep femoral arteries were widened, restoring healthy blood flow.
The result? He can now enjoy those 100 meters (and many more) without discomfort.

This is the power of modern medicine! Early diagnosis and minimally invasive procedures can make a world of difference.

Remember:

Smoking is a major risk factor for atherosclerosis.
Painful walking could be a sign of underlying issues. Don't ignore it!
Talk to your doctor about your heart health and risk factors. ❀️
