🐱🧼 Why Litter Cleaning Is So Important for Cats

Cats are very clean animals, and a dirty litter box can cause stress, infections, and behavior problems.

How often should you clean the litter box?

✔️ Scoop waste: 1–2 times daily
✔️ Top up fresh litter: as needed
✔️ Full litter change & wash box: once a week
✔️ For multiple cats: scoop 2–3 times daily

Why daily cleaning matters:
• Prevents urinary tract infections
• Reduces bad odor
• Keeps cats calm and comfortable
• Stops cats from peeing outside the box

A clean litter box is not a luxury — it’s a basic need 🐾💛
Clean litter = Happy, healthy cat

🐾 7 Reasons Cats May Skip the Litter Box 🐾
At Erika Veterinary Clinic, we often meet worried pawrents whose cats suddenly stop using the litter box. Here are the most common reasons:
1️⃣Dirty litter box – Cats are very clean and dislike using a soiled box.
2️⃣ Medical issues – Urinary tract infections, kidney problems, or pain can make them avoid it.
3️⃣ Type of litter – Some cats are picky about texture or scent.
4️⃣ Box location – Too noisy, hidden, or hard to reach? They may refuse it.
5️⃣ Stress or anxiety – Changes at home, new pets, or travel can upset their routine.
6️⃣ Too few litter boxes – Ideally, one box per cat + one extra.
7️⃣ Box size or style – Too small, covered, or uncomfortable can be a deal-breaker.
👉 If your cat is skipping the litter box, don’t ignore it — it could be a sign of a medical problem.
