MZUNI STUDENT SLEEPS WITH GHOST

Reports reaching our news desk indicate that one of Mzuzu University male student, aged 21, who narrated his fate at Mary Nightingale the messenger' page, has been s*xually dating with a 60 year old woman, who died two weeks ago.

A sketchy datum gathered shows that the two met when the student went to deposit fees at one of the banks in Mzuzu city. Whilst at the bank, he met an old granny whom he developed affections and started dating.

According to him, the women has been financially supporting him at the University including paying his tuition fee and monthly allowances. "The woman could pay me handsomely after having s*x" narrated the student.

Sadly, the women died weeks ago. He adds that since the death of his granny-lover, he has been hit hard by economic hardships since she has been providing him with allowances and tuition fee.

Above all, the student admits that the dead body, always comes with its casket in his dreams, every night and usually forces him to have s*x and later disappears; which according to the student, its so frightening.

He said that when he tries to resist from sleeping with the ghost, he unknowingly and mysteriously wake up at a graveyard the next morning.

Meanwhile, our reporters are trying to identify the particulars of the student in question as he narrated his story while masked.

Currently, the student in question is seeking psychological and spiritual support from relatives and friends on how he can get off the situation he is passing through.

This development comes barely months after another MZUNI student dated a landlord, and later, he started experiencing unusual illness from his private parts.

NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS: CASE OF SELF AND NONM

Later that day, in the month of February, I received a phone call from a certain lady "Hello, I hope you are Lucious. You are being invited to attend interviews slated next week on monday"

My heart went in United States while I was in Malawi, Luwinga, Mzuzu. I could not have hold the joy of being invited to attend interviews on a position which you have been eyeing for years. I told my everlasting mesho, Lawrence, about it all. We joyed together on that new step.

It all happened that weeks before that interview invitation call, National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi (NONM) secretariat released an advert inviting young and unemployed Nurses and Midwives to apply for the post of Communications Nurse intern.

The advert required one to have atleast a degree in Nursing/and Midwifery and, should be passionate with writings: familiar with article writing, reports, website management and be able to handle social social pages.

Without even thinking twice and with no hesitation, I penned the NONM secretariat applying for the post. I had all the hopes that the little skills and solid experience I have in social media platform and website management and article articulations, I could fit for the post.

To that date, It was 3 years after founding an informal indoor online media house, Village Dhadha Media, at Mzuzu University (MZUNI). I was the founder and CEO of the media house which started its operations in 2018 when I was in my second year of Nursing and Midwifery studies at MZUNI.

I literally employed atleast five reporters who were helping me in running all day to day affairs of the media on campus. In fact, to date, Village Dhadha Media remains the most followed and multi award winning publication house at MZUNI.

Additionally, I served NONM-MZUNI student chapter as secretary and project officer for two consecutive terms. Besides, I even wrote a booklet titled "Common Nursing Care in Mental Health and Psychiatry". The booklet is being used by students whenever they are providing care to mentally ill patients and some other clients requiring mental health counselling. With this background, I had all the hopes that I can make it as Communication Nurse.

At that time, I had no money to be used for transport. I kindly borrowed a certain amount of money for transportation fare from Mzuzu to Lilongwe. After landing at city center in Lilongwe, I went straight to NONM secretariat offices. On the chair, I sat next to a certain girl who seemed so nervous than I. She carried papers in her handbag, probably her degree and, perhaps, other certificates.

I too, had my papers in my hands, ready to be chopped through the interviews ahead. I carried, among others, my MSCE certificate and a reference letter from the University Registrar, validating me for the interviews that am waiting for graduation ceremony despite not having the actual bachelors degree certificate.

"You are Lucious right?" A lady asked while smiling. I breathlessly answered, Yes, I am. Please, you are the first on our list and come in. My mind finely saved me right that she was the lady who phoned at first notifying me of the interviews when I was in Mzuzu.

I entered the room. In front of me, on the panel, were four people including NONM Acting CEO, Accountant, Project Officer and advisor. At first, I was so tensed and restless to withstand the heat felt inside considering that it was my first time having attended a physical interview.

Then, the NONM CEO started it all by asking me to introduce myself. I did it as demanded. Questions were being fired from the panel ranging from the academic point of knowledge to general level and, ofcourse, dwelled much on technical questions in regards to the post of communications Nurse intern.

I tackled them all. Precisely, I tried pretty much better to pin down all the technical questions laned on the management of reports, social media handles and computer literature as required. They, collectively, showed positivity towards me. I could not resist myself to conclude that I will be hired on that post. They told me that I shall receive feedback in a week time.

I moved out of the room and went back home. Next day, I boarded a bus back to Luwinga, Mzuzu. I was so confident that God will pave a way so that I can be working with NONM as a communication nurse.

The very first week clocked without a call or an email on the feedback from the interview we had with NONM as promised. I kept my fingers crossed hoping that they shall forward the feedback when it is ready. Four weeks went off without any feedback.

Since I loved the post most, I bought credit for internet data bundle and for calls. I called and emailed the lady who invited me for the interviews. Upon enquiring, she plainly told me that it wasn't my fortunate time as they had hired another candidate already. I suspected a foul play but I just leaved it like that, knowing that none can take away someone' God bounded fortune. It is just a matter of time.

I felt very low and sorry for myself. I was really down. I told my girl, Nganasho, about the sad development. She comforted me and, told me that there is always next time, that I might apply for it again next time.

But, maybe I really failed the interviews so to say. I still have it in my mind that maybe it was not my turn. There is mine somewhere waiting for me, I internally supposed.

Despite everything, I have been submitting my articles in the NONM quarter and annual magazines. Up to date, the articles are receiving praises and they speak for the goodness of the struggling nurses and midwives out there. I still have the feeling that one day, by God's grace, I shall work at NONM even if it means on pro-bono basis.

All being said, as a Nurse Midwife, I still love the profession. I still love being one of the writers who can write for the thousands of voiceless Nurse Midwives out there. I will still apply for the post of communication nurse intern at NONM when the next advert comes out.

Never give up on your dreams. Chase the dream and one day you shall freshly catch it.

Yours,
Lucius Gerrald

WHY SHOULD MALAWI DOCTORS DESIST FROM INVADING NURSES REDEMPTIVE PLANS TO FLY ABROAD FOR GREENER PASTURE

By Lucious C. Gerrald

In preamble, Nursing and Midwifery profession was discovered and founded by Florence Nightingale, an upper class British woman who captured the public imagination when she led a group of female nurses to the Crimea in October of 1854 to deliver nursing services to wounded British soldiers.

Upon her return to England, Nightingale successfully established nurse education programs in a number of British hospitals. These schools were organized around a specific set of ideas about how nurses should be educated, developed by Nightingale often referred to as the “Nightingale Principles.”

Actually, while Nightingale’s work was ground-breaking in that she confirmed that a corps of educated women, informed about health and the ways to promote it, could improve the care of patients based on a set of particular principles, she was the not the first to put these principles into action.

The outbreak of the Civil War in Britain created an immediate need for capable nurses to care for the enormous number of sick and wounded soldiers and ordinary citizens. About 20,000 women and men served as nurses in both the North and the South. The commendable service rendered by Civil War nurses provided a rationale for future experiments in setting up training programs for nursing.

One such program was initiated in Pennsylvania where the Women’s Hospital of Philadelphia offered a six months nurse training course, supervised by medical doctors, which graduated its first class in 1869. Similar courses, such as that offered by the New England Hospital for Women and Children were begun in other locales.

Similarly, the nursing and midwifery education spouted everywhere around the globe. Millions of nurses are being trained to supplement care provision to clients and patients in hospital and, also in different communities of the globe including in Malawi.

In Malawi, yearly, thousands of Nurses and midwives are graduating and await facing the real industry with low demands of recruiting these healthcare providers. To this effect, numerous nurses are just staying idle without working, a thing which worries their parents and sponsors.

In June, 2022, as one way of arresting the dramatic increase in number of nurses and midwives who are unemployed, the National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi (NONM), through its President Mr Shouts Simeza, made a million times milestone development.

NONM communicated to the Malawi nation that the organisation intends to connect 5,000 unemployed nurses to Saudi Arabia and United States of America (USA) yearly, starting from next month, August, for a period of 5 years.

The development, according to a sketchy observation within the unemployed nurses circle, has brought hope and future enjoyment in the minds of these young and tender nurses and midwives.

Despite being a happiest news that ears of these unemployed healthcare providers ever hear, some quarters and other healthcare professions have expressed, undoubtedly, jealous towards the move.

To them, as per their say, the development moved by NONM of partnering with overseas countries to recruit 5,000 unemployed Malawian nurses, who are just eating dusts in the streets of cities and districts, is a wastage of human capital.

Latest of it all being the Association of Medical Doctors pronouncement, which seem so uncomfortable with the news that from next month, 1,000 unemployed nurses and midwives are moving to Saudi Arabia to work in different health facilities.

According to Dr. Victor Mithi, who heads the Association of Medical Doctors, views the whole move as untimely and deserves a total reverse to its entirety, as it will brain-drain the Malawi' healthcare provision in the already crippling health system.

Positively, the Association also lamented that exporting nurses to USA for work shows that the Malawi government has failed big time on its responsibility of training and recruiting them into the health system. He added that if nurses will be allowed to fly abroad, this will also prompt Doctors to move away for greener pastures too.

A quickly analysis of what the learned Malawian Medical Doctors assertions over the recruitment of nurses to oversea countries, shows that they are still not happy with the independency nurses gained numerous decades ago through the efforts of Nightingale.

The Association was recorded in Malawi media outlets, that they will seek an audience with ministry of health so that they should stop NONM from furthering their plans of exporting unemployed nurses and midwives to Saudi Arabia and USA.

In a sane and sober point of view, they (Doctors) still want to be technically controlling and manipulating the nursing and midwifery profession, which is taken as the core center and heart of the healthcare provision in every country.

Undisputed facts remain that Doctors and Nurses fall under different professions with different legal roles and functions. Despite that these two professions work in the same setting (Hospital) and with a common goal of caring for the sick, they don't share common leadership.

Observably, Doctors as health professionals have their own regulatory body, Medical Council of Malawi (MCM) with a parallel leadership, while on the other hand, Nurses are headed by Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi (NMCM), with its own leadership.

Two professionals working within the same setting and with common goal, should not give a certain profession over-excitement and powers that they can control the other. They need to respect the other noble group of workers who has their own independent scope of practice.

Nevertheless, each profession should stick to their values that guide the scope of work they are employed for to avoid infringing other profession' core values. For instance, it can be so absurd to hear that immigration officers are barring Police officers from going to any other country for work because these two professions are different and are headed by different leadership despite being under same ministry.

None of sane parent, guardian or sponsor can be happy seeing a graduate whom they financially sponsored with millions of kwacha in form of tuition fees and allowances, roaming around the streets jobless while there is a greener pasture somewhere growing freely and waiting for eaters (nurses) to eat it.

Additionally, to train a single nurse from CHAM nursing college, sponsors cough 1.2 million per one academic year compared to that of lower amount of training a medical doctor, encompassed in the said Association medical doctors, from College of Medicine as they pay at least 400,000 per the same one academic year.

With kind hearts, authorities should be happy that thousands of lives of unemployed nurses and midwives will change to the betterment of their families who look up on them. They deserve support so that they can go and work in abroad health facilities since government is failing to employ them.

Otherwise, the learned Doctors should lobby government with their own ways of recruiting unemployed Doctors who are also struggling to make ends meet in the streets. They should concentrate on finding their own partners who might also import these struggling medical doctors in their countries.

By Grivin Zamumtima

Information reaching our news desk indicates that the meeting which took place yesterday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe between the State President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and Mzuzu University Students Representative Council (MUSREC) president Mr Cephus Anjiru Maganga is expected to yield positive results.

According to MUSREC President, Mr Cephus Anjiru Maganga, a number of marked issues were presented to the state president including the need for institution cafeteria, accommodation, inclusion of all modes of learning on Loans and Grants scheme, and the need to beef up the institution’s transportation section with vehicles.

Meanwhile, with power as the Chancellor of MZUNI, president Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera pointed out the need to support the only public university in the northern region, MZUN, as it has a huge populace as of currently, thus the challenges outlined are genuine and require utmost attention.

The president, then, emphasised that Malawi as a country is in economic crisis therefore, the challenges being faced by MZUNI may be addressed in phases considering the funds available on the ground.

He also lamented the need to seriously consider the all deserving needy students on the higher education loans scheme through Higher education students loans and grants boards.

On the other hand, the president kindly asked MZUNI community for a patience on Loans and Grants issue, saying it will be brought to the attention of the legislators for it is a matter of policy change so that even Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL) stduents should be considered during the granting of government loans to students.

On the hostel issue, the state president told the gathering that there is Private-Public Partnership projects (PPPP) already underway which will, among other projects, embark on the construction of hostels in different schools including MZUNI and it will start in September.

By Staff Reporter

Wonders shall never end at Mzuzu University (MZUNI) as mesho allegedly had biological bonding with her boyfriend whilst her mesho was in the same room.

A sketchy datum which we have gathered indicates that a female scholar, who invited her boyfriend to her room, starting having some romantic fusing at the watch of her mesho.

According to additional information sourced, this happened just after the girl and the boyfriend kindly requested the mesho to move out of the room so that they can enjoy their s*xual desires.

Upon being requested, mesho turned down the request and she did not move out of the room, which made the lovers start having "it" whilst mesho was on the other bed sleeping.

Later in the morning, the two room mates started throwing on each other words and a verbal war ignited, which seized after some people around their hostel called for negotiations.

Our reporter went to the press but the accused persons were not immediately available for comments.
