KIDNEYS AND WAYS TO KEEP THEM SAFE.
Kidney is a One of vital or important organs in our body. Without kidneys we can not survive.
*Function of kidneys* includes
1. It mentains haemostasis: kidneys maintains blood volume in our circulation, how?_ when blood volume is high kidneys it removes a lot of water from circulation by producing more urine, and when volume is low and body needs blood for other organs survival, kidneys aborsobs more water to expand the blood volume.
2. It help in excretion of waste substances: kidneys helps to remove toxic substances like uric acid, urea and creatine, in rare circumstances it removes ketone bodies, this substances when are excessive may damage other organs including the brain.
3. It help in blood formation process: kidneys has cells that produce and releases erythropoietin hormone, this hormone has a function to stimulate red bone marrows to produce red blood cells. so without kidneys no production of blood.
4. It helps in production of vitamin D, where by it coverts cholecalciferol into calciferol substance and calciferol is called vitamin D.
HOW CAN I KEEP MY KIDNEYS SAFE
1. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water (at least 8-10 glasses a day) to help kidneys to flush out toxic substances as well as to maintain circulation.
2. Balanced Diet: Focus on whole, nutrient-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats.
3. Limit Salt: Consume less than 2,300 mg/day to reduce blood pressure because High blood pressure may damage some cells of kidneys.
4. Monitor Blood Pressure: Control hypertension through lifestyle changes and medication (if prescribed).
5. Exercise Regularly: Aim for 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity, 5-7 times a week.
6. Don't Smoke: Smoking damages blood vessels and reduces kidney function.
7. Limit Sugar Intake: Manage blood sugar levels to prevent kidney damage. And to Diabetic patient you need to attend diabetic clinical days as advised for kidney function monitoring.
8.Manage Stress: Engage in stress-reducing activities like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing, watching comedies and sports activities.
9. Regular Check-Ups: Get kidney function tests (eGFR and urine albumin) annually if you're at risk.
10. Avoid over using of kidney-Toxic drugs: other drugs are Harmful to kidneys like Gentamicin, Tenofovir and other herb πΏ substances.
11. Get early treatment for urinary tract infections.
