JOB VACANCY

Role Title: Clerk of Works
Institution: Blantyre Malaria Project an affiliate of Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (Kuhes)
Reporting Relationships: Project Manager/Operations Manager

Blantyre Malaria Project (BMP), a research affiliate of the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES), would like to invite applications from qualified candidates to fill the post of Clerk of Works.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The post-holder will play a crucial role in ensuring that the construction project is executed according to the specified standards, within the set timeline, and in compliance with relevant regulations. He/she will be responsible for improving the overall quality and success of the construction project.
JOB PROFILE:
Supervision of Works including:
- Sampling of materials and mixtures;
- Control of contractor performance and ex*****on of works;
- Submission of weekly report to the Project Manager,
- Keeping a record of works performed,
- Keeping record of contractor’s presence,
- Ensuring that materials delivered are of acceptable quality following design specifications,
- Monitoring materials sampling and testing procedures,
- Keeping a record of staff on site, etc. according to the highest industry standards,
- Ensuring safety adherence on site.
- Participation in relevant site and progress meetings and other meetings, e.g. site inspection.
- Immediate relay of information to superiors on any matters arising;
- Day-to-day liaison with the Project Supervision Team;

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Hold a Diploma in Engineering or Construction Technology or equivalent qualification obtained from an accredited institution.
- Not less than 10 years of work experience in building construction works;
- Having previous experience as a site supervisor on a multi-storey building, construction inspector, or in a similar role is advantageous.

GENERAL ATTRIBUTES:

The ideal candidate should have the following attributes:

- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications;
- Understanding of relevant construction tools;
- Ability to identify and solve construction-related problems effectively;
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements;
- Awareness of and commitment to safety protocols on construction sites;
- Ability to manage time efficiently and coordinate various aspects of construction projects;
- Ability to work collaboratively with contractors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders;
- Sober habits;
- Excellent oral and written skills in English.
