Malawi wadala pomwe zadziwika kuti mgodi wa Kanyika Niobium ku Mzimba uzabweretsa chuma chokwana $5.6 billion (K10.4 trillion) mu zaka 23, kapena kuti $243 million (K450 billion) pa chaka.

Koma kampani ya Globe Metals, yomwe yamaliza kufufuza za ntchito ya mgodiwu, yapeza kuti pafunika mpamba wokwana $250 million (K462 billion) kuti iyambe kufukula miyala ya Niobium yokwana matani 3 250 ndi Tantalum wokwana matani 140 pa chaka komanso kumanga malo wochapira miyalayi (refinery).

Pakali pano kampaniyi ikufufuza mpamba ndipo iyamba kumanga mgodiwu chaka cha mawa ndikuwutsekula mu 2028.

Mulongozgi wa Chipani cha Solidarity Alliance Dr. Victor Madhlopa walumba ivyo wapanga Mulongozgi wachalo chino Peter Mutharika pa kutolapo lyande pakuthuwuska makani ya vawumoyo mu vipatala vya boma muchalo chino.

Mu kalata iyo yasayinika na mulongozgi uyu Muhanyawuno pa 17 February yaphala kuti ivo wachita mulongozgi uyu pakulekeska milimo yakulipiliskanga pala munthu wakhumba wovwili ku chipatala kweniso kulekeska wateweti wa mu vipatala vya boma kuwangaso na vipatala vyawo vakulipiliska ( private) kuti ndi jando liwemi la ulamuliro wakusintha vinthu.

Wa Madhlopa walutilira kusachizgira kuti makani aya yatewete makola, nthena wupu wa Medical Council of Malawi wukwenera nthe wapokaso vikalata vyose ivo wakupereka ku wanthu awo wakuteweta mu vipatala vya boma kweni waliso na vipatala vyawo vinthu ivo vingavwira kuti wawe wakujipereka kumoza.

Paumaliro mulongozgi uyu walomba boma kuti likwezge malipiro ya wanthu wakuteweta pasi pa unduna wa vyaumoyo (vipatala), kulemba wanthu wakukwana kweniso kuwapa vilwelo vakukwana mwakuti milimo ya vawumoyo yendenge makola.

Dokotala wanu wabweranso!

Malawi, ngati dziko lina lililonse, likuyesetsa kuwongolera kuti lidzipanga chakudya chochuluka. Kuti tikwanilitse izi tikuyenera kuchilimika kulima komanso kuteteza zokolola ku tizilombo pogwiritsa ntchito mankhwala a pesticides, herbicides ndi feteleza.

Kodi mukudziwa kuti mankhwala amenewa(omwe timawagwiritsa ntchitowa) ndi oopsya kumoyo wathu?

Mankhwalawa ndi oopsya kuzomera,zinyama komanso chilengedwe.Mwachitsanzo,ngati tiipitsa madzi athu ndi mankhwalawa,ife anthu,nyama ndinso zomera zizamwa poyizoni ndipo miyoyo idzakhala pachiophyezo.

Pokhapokha titaphunzira kugwiritsa ntchito mwandondomeko zovomerezeka,ngati sititsata ndondomeko zovomerezekazi milili ya matenda monga khansa,matenda a m'mapapo,matenda a m'mimba,matenda akhungu,matenda amuubongo,kubereka ana aulumari ndi matenda ena omwe sitikuwadziwa.

Ndiyamike mtsogoleri wadziko lino Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika pondilemekeza ndi udindo otsogolera bungwe la Pestcides Control Board ,lomwe limayang'anira kagwiritsidwe ntchito kabwino ka mankhwala a pesticides mu Malawi.

Ngati bungwe,timayang'ana kuti mankhwala a pesticides omwe amapangidwa kapena kugwiritsidwa ntchito m’Malawi asakhale oopsa kwa anthu omwe adzagulitse kapena zomwe adzazigwiritsile ntchito.

Timaperekanso maphunziro kwa anthu amene amagula, amatumiza ndi amene amagwiritsa ntchito mankhwala amenewa poonetsetsa kuti ali ndi upangiri oyenera.

Timaphunzitsa za kugwiritsa ntchito moyenera ndi kuyika mankhwala amenewa mosamala.

Pakadali pano, mankhwala oopsya komanso oletsedwawa akulowabe mudziko muno mopanda chilolezo.

Ogwiritsa ntchito mankhwalawa akusowa upangiri wabwino otaya moyenera komanso malo otailako oyenera,zotsatira zake,miyoyo yathu ipitilira kukhala pachiophyezo ,nzosadabwitsa kuona anthu akubvutikabe ndi matenda oopsya muzipatalamu.

Your Doctor is back!

All countries, Malawi not excluded, efforts to increase food production is a priority. To achieve this, there has been so much emphasis on increasing yields and the protection of harvests from pests by use of chemicals in the form of pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers.

Did you know that these chemicals (which we widely use) are a hazard to our health as human beings?

To put this into context, these chemicals we use are hazardous to plants, animals and the environment we live in. For instance: If we contaminate our water, human beings, animals and plants will drink poison and life gets affected.

Unless we learn to use them in the right regulated way, we shall continue to be bombarded, as humans, with strange episodes of life threatening and preventable diseases including cancers, lung and airway diseases, abdominal ailments, allergies, birth defects in children including brain challenges as well as many yet to be identified illnesses.

I am honoured to have been charged by His Excellency the State President of the Republic of Malawi Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika with the responsibility of Chairing Pesticide Control Board, an ultimate oversight body that is responsible for the safe use of pesticide chemicals in Malawi.

As a board, we are the team that ensures that pesticide chemicals that are either manufactured or imported into Malawi are not only effective and non counterfeit products, but also safe to those who will consume the food products or the resultant purpose they are meant to serve.

We are also responsible for ensuring that the importers, handlers, and users of the chemicals are safe by making sure they have adequate knowledge on use and self personal protection on using or handling the chemicals.

We are also responsible for the safe disposal of unused chemicals including the safe disposal of the containers that kept the pesticides.

Currently, the situation in the country is very dire.

Dangerous and banned chemicals have crossed our borders, most of them illegally.

Users of the chemicals lack knowledge on safe use and disposal as well as the absolute lack of a safe disposal facility in the country.

We also lack the services of a laboratory facility that can test the chemicals we use as a people.

As a result, our lives have been and continue to remain in constant danger. No wonder our people are spending time in hospitals with life threatening illnesses.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to act, conceited effort, now or never.
