A year later, I stood at the site where we lost Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and all the souls aboard. Time has passed, but the memories remain. We remember. We honour. We reflect.

SOLIDARITY ALLIANCE PARTY MOURNS THE LIKOMA BOAT TRAGEDY

_________________________________________________________________

The Solidarity Alliance Party is deeply heartbroken by the tragic boat accident on Lake Malawi that has claimed the lives of at least eleven of our brothers and sisters near Likoma Island. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, and we stand with the survivors and the entire Likoma community during this painful time.

This loss is not just a Likoma tragedy—it is a national one. Each life lost represents a story, a dream, and a future cut short. Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families, and we urge all Malawians to come together in solidarity and support.

We also echo the calls of local leaders and concerned citizens: the time to act is now. We urge the Government of Malawi to expedite the completion of the long-delayed Likoma Jetty. This critical infrastructure will not only enhance safety for passengers but also restore dignity and order to marine transport in the region.

Furthermore, we call for the scaling up of monitoring and enforcement on our waters. No vessel should be allowed to operate without meeting strict safety standards. Lives must never again be lost to negligence or lack of oversight.

As a party, we reaffirm our commitment to advocating for the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every Malawian. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may their memories drive us to build a safer, more responsible nation.

Signed,
Dr Victor Madhopa

Fellow Malawians,

Today, I am here reintroducing myself to you all not just as a doctor, not just as a private citizen but as a fellow patriot who has dedicated over 20 years of my life to serving our people. Through my profession, I have witnessed the struggles of our citizens firsthand, mothers who cannot afford proper healthcare, young people without opportunities, families burdened by poverty and a nation yearning for real change.

For years, I have used my platform to share insights, to educate and to engage in discussions about the challenges we face. But today, I take a step further. After deep reflection, I have decided that it is time to act and not just from the consultation room but from a position where I can truly influence change. That is why I am honored to announce my candidacy for the presidency of Malawi under the banner of Solidarity Alliance Party.

I am not a politician by profession. I am a servant of the people and I have seen how our country needs leadership that listens, leadership that acts and leadership that puts the people first. We can no longer afford to stand by while our economy weakens, while corruption robs us of our future, and while our healthcare, education and agriculture sectors struggle. Malawi deserves better.

My vision is clear: to build a healthier, stronger and more prosperous Malawi for all. A Malawi where no child sleeps hungry, where every citizen can access quality healthcare, where education empowers our youth and where opportunities exist for every hardworking Malawian.

I do not promise miracles. I promise commitment. I promise action and I promise to stand with you in this fight for a better Malawi.
No tribalism, no regionalism, no nepotism, by “uniting everyone in our diversity for everyone’s progress”

This journey will not be easy but together we can make history. Together we can bring the change we all deserve. I call upon all of you young and old, men and women, farmers, teachers, traders and professionals to join me in this movement. Let us rise and build a Malawi that works for everyone.

May God bless Malawi. May God bless us all.

Thank you.

The bad economic situation we are in now has led to a bad state of mental, social and physical health for everyone. We must rise up. Zativuta apa kwambili.

It’s irresponsible to expect a third party to shoulder the burden of your own health care needs. We must end corruption and invest in our own consumption!
