Normal moles and melanoma differ in the following aspects:
Normal moles: They are usually round or oval in shape, with clear boundaries and uniform color, which can be brown, black, brown, etc. The diameter is generally less than 6 millimeters, the surface is smooth, and they are level with or slightly higher than the surrounding skin.
Melanoma: Its shape is often irregular, with indistinct boundaries and varying shades of color. It can present as a mixture of multiple colors, such as black, brown, red, and white. The diameter is usually greater than 6 millimeters, and the surface may be rough, scaly, or nodular or cauliflower.
Growth rate
Normal moles: They grow slowly and usually show no significant changes in size, shape or color over the years.
Melanoma: It grows rapidly and can significantly increase in size, thicken or change shape within a short period of time (such as a few months or weeks).
Normal symptoms of moles: Generally, there are no subjective symptoms, and there will be no itching, pain, ulceration, bleeding, etc.
Symptoms of melanoma: It may be accompanied by itching and pain, and is prone to rupture and bleeding. Satellite foci (i.e., small moles around moles) may also appear on the surrounding skin.
