NGO donates fertilizer to widows

Lilongwe, 16 December, Mana: Women and children of Group Village Makalani in Traditional Authority (TA) Njewa in Lilongwe have all reasons to smile after Invest Inc a non-governmental organization reached out to the village with fertilizers.
The Leader of the organization Timothy Zimba, told Mana on Wednesday that the NGO is aiming at assisting widows and other women headed families to move out from abject poverty by the little donation they will continue giving out.
“Invest Inc runs programmes aimed at improving the likelihood of women, mainly widows and the elderly. In addition, invest is sponsoring a number of children attain mainly secondary school education and a few attain tertiary education.
“We are committed to making sure our students come from families which are able to have enough food, in turn they can do well in school and be productive citizens, who may now look after their widowed mothers,” he said.
He further said that the organization is moved to assist the women because most of the children they sponsor at school live with them and in so doing they ensure that there is enough food for them after harvest.
“If they are food secure they will have peace and concentrate on plans for developing their lives. This in turn will improve the nutrition of both women and their children who can then do well in their respective classes,” he added.
Speaking on behalf the beneficiaries, Chairlady for the invest women group, Esther Chagwira thanked invest for continued support narrating that they had earlier in the previous months received certified seeds which has led to every woman owning a maize filed.
“This donation of 26 bags of fertilizer each weighing 50 kilograms is very timely and will make a great difference in our families. We have maize fields which we lacked enough fertilizers to apply so that harvests are meaningful.
“Several years back we our harvests were always handful because we lacked fertilizers despite having the fields well prepared, but this year we expect things to change for the better,” she said.
GVH Makalani told Mana in a separate interview that he is delighted with the support and that he will play an advisory role the beneficiaries so that the resources are put to proper use.
“This is an opportunity that the women in my area can let it go, we will put this donation to its intended use,” VGH Makalani said.
Invest Inc also intend to train the women and youth in entrepreneurship and vocational skills beginning early 2021.
The village is located 500m from airbase on the way to Mbavi along Kasiya road where invest has been operational since 2014.
The organization re-started its works after it went in silence for a year. Initially, it was sponsoring about 64 student5s and supporting over 30 women in the area.
