Urgent Appeal for Global Support: GLOHOMO Mobilizes to Address Hunger Crisis in Zambia and Malawi
05 April 2024, Lilongwe – Global Hope Mobilization (GLOHOMO) issues an urgent plea for resources to deliver life-saving food assistance to millions of people in Zambia and Malawi, who are facing severe hunger exacerbated by prolonged drought attributed to El Niño weather conditions.
The devastating impact of the drought has left communities in Zambia and Malawi struggling to access basic necessities. Over 2 million people in Malawi and more than 1 million farming households in Zambia are facing the risk of starvation. In Malawi, 23 out of 28 districts are affected by El Niño, while in Zambia, 84 out of 116 districts are affected. GLOHOMO, an international humanitarian organization committed to providing aid in crisis situations, underscores the critical nature of the situation.
"The impact is significant, and so are the needs. We can avert a hunger catastrophe for the hardest-hit families, but time is not on our side," stated Caleb Thole, Executive Director of GLOHOMO. "We are calling on the international community and our partners to step up now and help us save lives."
The urgency of this appeal is underscored by declarations of a state of disaster by President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi and President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia, both acknowledging the severe impact of El Niño weather conditions on their respective nations.
GLOHOMO emphasizes that immediate action is required to prevent further loss of life and alleviate the suffering of those affected by the crisis. The organization is mobilizing resources to provide vital food assistance, but additional support is urgently needed to scale up these efforts and reach all communities in need.
GLOHOMO urges governments, corporations, and individuals worldwide to contribute generously to the relief efforts in Zambia and Malawi. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference in saving lives and providing hope to those facing hunger and despair.
