On your healing journey, one of the things you will learn is to stop over explaining but most people wonder what that would sound like in real life.

Saying what you need without over-explaining sounds like:

✅️"I need a little extra patience today."
✅️"I don't feel like talking about what happened, but I'd
appreciate some company."
✅️"I need a minute to think before I respond,"
✅️"I could really use a hug.
✅️ "Can you check in with me about this tomorrow?'
✅️"I don't know what I want yet; please don't rush me.'
✅️"I need some space to think this through,"
✅️"Are you free to talk through my options?"
✅️"Unfortunately I'm not available."

Stay in the bathroom longer, Offer to "go get something from the car." Go for a walk, Text yourself a truth you need to remember. Get away from the eyes watching you, Give yourself 3 minutes of truth in the mirror...sometimes little things like these are all the self care you need.

Affirmations for when you have to start over;

✅️In time the unfamiliar will become familiar
✅️ I'm allowed to adjust at my own pace
✅️I can own and forgive myself for the part I played in being here.
✅️Being hopeful is hard, but I can let muself be curious about what is next
✅️ I may not have chosen this, but I am capable of making decisions that are in my best interest as I move forward
✅️ I can acknowledge my grief and anger while leaving room for new experiences and opportunities.

I had the honour of facilitating a mental health, self-care, and collective care session with the ActionAid Malawi Women’s Forum.

The space was intentionally light, reflective, human, and grounding, a pause for women leaders to step out of constant doing and reconnect with their inner resources. We explored practical self-care strategies, burnout awareness, grief-sensitive leadership, and the role of collective care in sustaining women within demanding work environments.

One message anchored the session:
Self-care is not indulgence. It is leadership infrastructure.

In spaces where women carry professional responsibility alongside emotional labour, community care, and personal loss, mental wellbeing is not optional, it is foundational to sustainable leadership and long-term impact.

I am so grateful to ActionAid Malawi for creating space for these conversations and for trusting me to hold it.

Please remember,

It's okay to not talk to everyone at work, It's okay to keep your distance from people who drain you, you don't have to feel guilty for choosing peace over conversations that leave you exhausted and not every connection is good for you.

Guys let’s be clear and responsible popanga zinthu

Hosting mental health events without the involvement of licensed mental health professionals in the planning, programming, or speaker lineup is not just an oversight, it’s irresponsible and potentially dangerous.

Mental health is not motivational speaking. It is not guesswork.
And it is certainly not a space for unqualified advice.

When people attend these events, they come with real pain, real trauma, and real vulnerability. That requires ethical standards, professional training, and accountability. Anything less puts lives at risk.

If we truly care about mental well-being, then we must do better by collaborating with qualified professionals, respecting evidence-based practice and put people’s safety above popularity and profit

Good intentions are not enough. Competence matters.

Let’s raise the bar for mental health conversations, not dilute them. Chonde.

To the person who understands English perfectly but feels stuck when it’s time to speak or type, this is for you.

Low self-esteem caused by a language barrier is far more common than we talk about. If you can understand what is being said, your intelligence and comprehension are already solid. That part of the foundation is built. What you’re experiencing next is not a lack of ability, it’s fear.

Fear of being judged. Fear of making mistakes. Fear of being misunderstood.

But here is the thing communication is about connection, not perfection. Language is a tool, not a test. You are allowed to pause, to think, to respond slowly, and yes, to make mistakes. That is how fluency grows.

Confidence does not arrive first and then action follows. It’s the other way around. Confidence is built through small, imperfect attempts. One message sent. One sentence spoken. One brave moment at a time.

Start where the pressure is low, practice speaking to yourself out loud, text with people who feel safe, remind yourself that being understood matters more than being flawless

Your voice deserves space, even when it shakes. Your thoughts are valid, even when the words feel heavy.

You are not “behind.” You are learning, and learning is a strength.

Be gentle with yourself. Growth is already happening.

During my therapy session with one of my clients today she said something that deeply resonated with me, She told God, "I don't want to be Martha anymore. I want to be more like Mary."

That statement struck me because it reflected the heart of so many women today, constantly moving, constantly doing, running rampant trying to manage everything, even things God never asked us to carry, We get so caught up, we miss the invitation to simply sit at Jesus' feet like Mary did & be present with Him

It’s interesting how many of us say we want men who are emotionally secure, yet we sometimes take part in a culture that discourages their vulnerability. When we label men as “too emotional” or dismiss their openness, we unknowingly reinforce toxic masculinity, the very thing we say we don’t want.

Part of supporting men’s mental health is learning what healthy masculinity looks like and creating space where men feel safe to be vulnerable without fear of judgment.

This , let’s challenge ourselves to not only encourage men to open up, but also to meet their honesty with compassion and understanding. 💙

Statistics show that there is a strong possibility of becoming an alcoholic later in life if you started taking alcohol early in life.
