The Story of a Boy with Big Dreams .
Let me introduce to you David Chilinda, a son, brother and a student from Mtande Wakuda village in Lilongwe. Born in a family of four, two boys and two girls. David is a student at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He has recently just passed his exams going into final year as an Agri-Business student, and yes the same Agri-Business which is the back bone of this country’s economy.
David is a big dreamer, and he backs up his dreams with action. He aspires to be the president of FAM one day. He is trying to reach out and motive the less privileged children by using his life as a living proof that the circle of poverty can be broken and poverty should not deter them from fighting for their dreams relentlessly as he is doing. Perhaps it was after seeing this potential and determination, it made his elder brother to invest in the future of David. Indeed his elder brother stopped his own school and joined their mother in finding resources for David to complete his school.
David was diagnosed with Keloid disease. Which is an expanded claw-like growth over the normal skin, from a scar of a wound repair. Even though the disease does not pose a threat to life, however they cause a lot of discomfort to the patients since it has the capability of inflicting a needle-like pain. And also depending on where it develops, it can be a source of low self-esteem.
Ever since David was diagnosed with this disease, he has battled in the world of huge pain. Still he didn’t give up on his dreams. Though when the pain reached its high points, reluctantly he had to quit playing football for his university and took a year away from school. This was a very painful moment in his life, but he still dreamed on. After several procedures to deal with the disease, non was successful. David with the resources mobilized by his friends and family then sought out the services of Dr. Douglas Lungu of Wezi Medical Center.
Despite having barely enough to cover the cost of the treatment, Dr. Lungu accepted to treat David. His case was then referred to Mulezi Health Trust. We quickly responded to pay off the balance cost. Now David is recovering and rediscovering his confidence and his dreams and the determination to see them through is as strong as ever.
Mulezi Health Trust wishes to help more of such cases by improving access to health services for vulnerable individuals.
