Ardha Chandrasana

Even with the help of a block this Asana was a challenge for me! When I did my first teacher training, it was my least favorite one. Changing my focus point from looking down to looking up is what makes this Asana difficult to maintain. But I love it now. Because it has been a challenge. It taught me that with concentration, connection with my body, patience, perseverance you can evolve through the difficulties and that sometimes very small modifications in our way of dealing with things can be enough to transform any situation into something more fluid and comfortable.

Tadasana...
Mountain pose.
Mountains are solid, they resist storms and winds, rainfalls and avalanches... They emerge for the depths of the Earth and erect towards the sky.
Starting with the feet together, feel the distribution of your weight on your métatarses, Hills and outside edges. Lift your toes, split the. Up as wide as you can and anchor them back in the ground. Your base it set. From there you grow tall towards the sky. .
Lifting your knee caps by engaging your thighs, engage your hips and the muscles in the back of your thighs...Keep the growth going by erecting your spine towards the sky like you would like to split your vertebrates from one another's engaging your deeper core Slightly lift your chestStretch out the vertebrates of your neck (*this foes not happen by lofting your chin...but by bringing your whole head slightly back like someone is pulling your jaw back and up)Breathe and observe as you are building mountain strength physically, mentally and emotionally. Keep you attention in concentration, in being a mountain, breathing...Keep your gaze focused on one point or keep them close but remain in concentration.Once you are ready to come out, release the activated posture but stay in place for a moment to observe the effects of your practice.

There is a saying in Mexico: "El sol sale para todos" which means "The sun rises for everyone". For, you, for me, for all the sun rises everyday even behind the clouds and the rain. It comes with a new day, new opportunities, new possibilities for us to do things differently, adopt a new attitude towards Life, make new dicisions and take new steps overcoming our fears and barriers. Let the sun shine and let the sun shine in and out. Surya Namaskar or Sun salute starts right there, acknowledging it's presence and with our hands joined at heart level (atmanjali mudra) being grateful for all of what that means and then, extending this gratefulness lifting our gaze and hearts to the sky (hastasana)... All of this starts with the sun rises for everyone...let's let ourselves see it.

Vrksasana

Tree pose.
Once your roots are anchored into the ground, your trunk is long, tall and firm, you can start growing your branches and allow the flowers to bloom and the fruits to grow.

Vrksasana is great to practice balance, tone the legs and understand the body mechanisms. Start standing straight with your feet together and well anchored in the ground, distributing your weight evenly on your hills, outside edge and metatarses. Placing your hands on your hips can give you stability to start with. Then give length to your whole body towards the sky, imagining a string pulling every vertebrae from coccyx (that's right.. spelled like that...) to crown. If you pay attention, you will notice a slight engagement in your deeper core...That is a key to balance!! Once you feel stable pass your weight on to one foot and place the other one against your ankle. Adjust your hips so that they are aligned. Take a focus point that is stable and about 2 meters infront of you to look at no matter what. As you feel more and more stable you can place your foot higher on your standing leg and once you feel anchored and strong extend your arms towards the sky. The secrets of the asanas lay in the connection with your own body. Embracing the process allows us to discover how small modifications can take us further in a safe, conscious and easier way. Hold for a few seconds, 30 if you can and don't forget to breathe.

Chin mudra: the mudra (seal) of Consciousness

In yoga, the thumb finger represents Consciousness while the index finger represents the individual soul. In chin mudra we are looking at allowing the individual soul to meet with Consciousness. This picture was taken for fun and to illustrate the light coming out of this practice but chin mudra is to be practiced while sitting in meditation, the index finger placed a little bit lower than the tip of the thumb with the hands placed on your knees and facing up. The version of this mudra with palms facing down is called jnana mudra which means the mudra of wisdom or knowledge.

Chin mudra helps to:
- Concentrate in meditation
-Release tensions
-Lifts dull mood and energy
-Create a pranic circuit for the energy to flow through our being
