From complete paralysis to full movement in 18 months 🦵
Benaya, a C5–C7 incomplete spinal cord injury patient, was assessed with the Manual Muscle Testing scale 18 months after being discharged from Verita Neuro in Thailand 🇹🇭. His hip flexors, hip extensors, knee extensors, knee flexors and ankle dorsiflexors improved from 0 (total paralysis) to 5 (normal movement with full range of motion).

Before treatment, Benaya had no movement in his lower body, minimal movement in his upper limbs, and relied fully on a caregiver for daily activities. Benaya visited in 2023 to received dual Epidural Stimulators, along with mapping, physical therapy and occupational therapy. He returned for remapping in 2024 and received more than 1,100 hours of personalized care in total.
Here’s what else changed:
🧍♂️ Mobility: Able to stand, lock his knees and take supported steps for over 10 metres.
💪 Upper body: Improved shoulder and wrist control allow him to grasp objects and feed himself.
🧠 Autonomic function: Temperature and blood pressure regulation improved from fair to normal, increasing his stamina.
🦶 Sensory: Proprioception returned, restoring a sense of coordination.
🪑 Stability: Stronger trunk control and paraspinal activation improved posture and dynamic sitting balance.
