Give Yourself the Attention You Deserve

See you soon for SATURDAY YOGA at Yoga Garden 9:30am!

The truly transformative work in life begins when you stop rushing through moments of difficulty and commit to one core principle: Check In, Not Out.

This isn't just about breathing deeply; it's the continuous practice of Self-Study (Svadhyaya). It means cultivating a conscious, non-judgmental awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations, especially when the pressure is on.

We often react instantly to discomfort: we quit the pose, we lash out, or we avoid the tough decision. That reaction happens because we haven't created space between the trigger and the response.

Self-Study is the mechanism for long-term stability.

By practicing observation with yoga and meditation, you create that crucial space. You learn to recognize: What thoughts derail you? What tension patterns emerge under stress?

When you master the art of observing yourself without judgment, you move from reaction to conscious choice. This internal resilience is the foundation that allows you to navigate everyday challenges with stability and grace.

I recently got a call from a friend whose 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. She felt overwhelmed—she thought she needed complicated rituals and special equipment. The truth is, meditation doesn’t require a spiritual guru or an empty mind.

It’s a gentle way to flip your body’s “fight-or-flight” switch and finally start reducing the real health dangers of chronic stress (like weight gain and sleep loss). No fancy extras needed, just start a little bit one day at a time.

𝗟𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻? The secret could be in your hips!

Low back discomfort often rears its ugly head when we're not paying attention. The key to 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 is understanding the relationship between your low spine and your pelvis (this goes far beyond the mat!)

Yoga is a wonderful way to become familiar with how 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 body works so you can apply expert-level awareness in daily life.

Let's look at a simple example: Warrior II

❌ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 (𝗦𝗲𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟭): When the front hip tips forward, it forces your low spine to bend sideways. That unnecessary compensation creates compression and potential discomfort. We try to stand tall, but the hips won't let us!

✅ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝘅 (𝗦𝗲𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟮): In the "Happy Warrior II," I've leveled the hips. When the pelvis is level, the low spine instantly gets the support it needs to lift up tall without fighting.

That awareness of the relationship between your hips and low back (lumbopelvic rhythm) is the mental muscle you build in your practice that protects your back when you’re out doing the things you love.

I recently got a call from a friend whose 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 for stress and cortisol levels. Her first reaction? "Help! I've never done this before!"

Doctors recommend meditation because it works: it flips your body from high-alert "fight-or-flight" to calming "rest-and-digest."

Ever feel that instant, powerful urge to escape when life gets hard? 🤯

Yoga isn't only physical. It teaches us how to use our physical experience to examine our mental and emotional patterns.

How do I know this? My 3-Minute Plank experience.

In that shaking pose, the mind says, "QUIT!" If you wait, you create "The Pause." The crucial space where you stop reacting and just observe.

That mental resilience, built on your mat, is the exact muscle you need to hold the line and make a conscious choice when conflict hits.

Show up for your practice to show up for yourself. You Check In, Not Out to build the internal strength required to do hard things.
