This week in Mexico, ADI strengthened its collaboration with public health authorities to advance the country’s dementia response. Diego Aguilar, Regional Director for the Americas, together with Dora Quezada, chair of the Mexican Federation of Alzheimer (FEDMA) and Rosa Farres, member of the ADI board, met with the Minister of Health, Dr. David Kershenobich. The meeting focused on advancing the implementation of the National Dementia Plan and reinforcing collaboration with civil society.
Dr. Kershenobich emphasised the importance of ADI and FEDMA’s work in shaping a national response, highlighting the need to address modifiable risk factors and promote early, stigma-free detection and support for carers.
Earlier, Diego and the FEDMA board held a high-level dialogue with officials of Vice Ministry for Health Policy and Population Wellbeing and the Commission of National Health Institutes. Authorities confirmed that dementia will be integrated into the upcoming 2025–2030 National Health Sector Plan. They also committed to expanding training for professionals, carers, and the general public, and to launching nationwide awareness strategies.
Diego's visit to Mexico City also included a strategic planning session with the FEDMA board, reinforcing civil society coordination for the implementation phase of Mexico's dementia plan.
