When your child is diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), living with the condition soon becomes a big part of your lives. It can be easy to forget just how low awareness of JIA is in society.

The words "Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis" can sound confusing themselves, and at the point of diagnosis, many people may never have heard of the condition and may not even be aware that children can get arthritis.

So sometimes, it's good to go back to basics and help share information with others to raise awareness that children and young people get arthritis too!

By sharing this post and helping to raise awareness, you could be helping a child receive a diagnosis more quickly. We know that improved awareness leads to faster diagnosis, which leads to treatment being started more promptly and that then leads to better outcomes for children with JIA. We can all play a part in helping to raise awareness that children get arthritis too.

JUVENILE ARTHRITIS DOESN'T TAKE A BREAK AT CHRISTMAS... Last year we shared a couple of thought-provoking images as a visual prompt in recognition of all the children we know with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) who continue to need medication, treatment, blood tests and physiotherapy right through the festive period and for some actually on Christmas day too. It resonated with many parents and carers of children with JIA.

Whilst we may get time off work and school for Christmas, children with JIA don't get "time off" from their condition and all the things that go along with it. Life is often far from "normal" for them in all that it entails. Whilst most children will be excited to be unwrapping presents on Christmas morning, some will be waking up knowing that they will have to deal with the nausea and side-effects that go along with their medications.

We'd like to take this opportunity to give a huge shout out to all of the doctors, nurses, pharmacists and medical staff who are there for us over the festive period, too. Thank you for all that you do!

We long for the day when we no longer need to share images like this. The day when a cure for JIA is found and our children can enjoy a truly normal Christmas. In the meantime, we will continue to raise awareness that children and young people get arthritis too and to help improve understanding of what is a variable and sometimes invisible illness.

KEEP ALL MEDICATIONS OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.

Today is WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY - A day to remind ourselves just how important it is to take care of our mental health just as we take care of our physical health.

No matter who you are, there can be times when it can be a challenge to look after our mental health and we know that it can be especially difficult at times if you are living with a chronic condition, or looking after someone with a chronic condition. This makes it all the more important to be aware of how things are going and to take steps each day to check in with yourself about how you're feeling.

By building some little things into our lives to help support our mental health, it can help prevent getting to crisis point. That could be something as simple as taking some time to listen to your favourite music or read a book or picking up the phone and chatting with a friend. It might be making time to catch up with a hobby you enjoy or finding a new hobby to do. Or it may be using one of the many resources out their to support mental health and wellbeing such as an app or journal.

Whilst this may be just one day of the year to remind us of the importance of looking after our mental health, it's important to remember to keep the conversations going all year round. So if things are not ok, it is really important to seek the help you need and there are some amazing organisations out there that can help.

Well be sharing more about mental health throughout the day.
