Istanbul Medipol University achieved a great success by ranking in five fields where the studies of universities, their innovative projects and their contribution to the society were evaluated, in the direction of 17 sustainable development goals set by the United Nations (UN). Medipol was included in the 201-300 range on "Health and Well-Being" among the other universities in the world. Medipol has achieved this success with the activities organized for healthcare professionals and researchers working in different fields, public health; Healthcare Thought and Medical Culture Journal which is published regularly; quality education, research activities and national-international collaborations. Our university was included in the 401+ range on 'Gender Equality and Reduced Inequalities' and the 601+ range on 'Partnerships for Qualified Education and Goals'.

TEKNOFEST, which Istanbul Medipol University is among the academic shareholders; will be held in September, 21-26 in Istanbul with public institutions, media organizations, universities, and 67 shareholder technology companies under Turkey Technology Team's executive and the Ministry of Industry and Technology.
The introductory meeting of the technology festival, which will be held for the 4th time this year, was held at Atatürk Airport where the event will be held. Senior officials of the shareholder organizations particularly the Vice-Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kaçır, Governor of Istanbul Ali Yerlikaya, The Minister of Presidency of Defence Industries İsmail Demir, Board Chairman of TEKNOFEST Selçuk Bayraktar and Board Chairman of T3 Foundation Haluk Bayraktar have attended the meeting.
The Vice-Minister Mehmet Fatih Kaçır said that they have provided financial support of more than 10 million TL to the festival so far and that they have presented more than 6 million TL to the contestants.
Bayraktar said the journey of TEKNOFEST which began with a dream has transformed into a world-scale organization now. Bayraktar, ‘’We have always believed that the essential value is human. What will move the national technology movement from this century to the future will be the qualified and educated human source. The National Technology Movement is a stance and a strong challenge against the monopolization in scientific and technologic improvements.’’
Rector Rep. Prof. Dr. Ömer Ceran representing Istanbul Medipol University expressed his satisfaction to have been a shareholder of TEKNOFEST from the very first year. Noting that the festival has an important place in the country’s technology and science journey, Ceran said that they will always support this important organization. Ceran stated that technology competitions have a great importance for individuals to produce and develop national technology.
Thousands of qualified individuals from elementary schools to graduate students can participate in the TEKNOFEST competitions. The application deadline is February, 28.

World-renowned urologists Prof. Dr. Jean de la Rosette and Prof.Dr. Pilar Laguna, who continue their academic and professional works under Istanbul Medipol University, spoke to Sabah Newspaper. The academic pair who work as faculty members in the International School of Medicine made statements about the Turkish healthcare system and their lives in Turkey.
Here are some highlights from the interview;

How do you evaluate the Turkish healthcare system and Medicine education?
Turkey invests a lot in healthcare systems; therefore, this reflects economic and social development. They have a healthcare system that meets the medical needs of the population. However, the uncommon type of such a system brings its weaknesses. Just as the capacity reaching fullness. The private healthcare system is a good alternative to achieve a balance that prevents this from happening when properly arranged. As we see, the university's curriculum resembles the curriculums of universities and educational programs in Europe. Our general impression, for speaking the physicians in our area, that they are well-educated and are at the same level as their colleagues in Europe and the USA. The area where efforts should be made in the coming years is to increase the basic research and the structuring of the clinical research.

What would you like to say to the candidate physicians in Turkey, especially for those who want to work abroad in the future, as physicians who know the world perspective?
The concept of working abroad consists of many legendary components. If your aim is to develop yourself, learn about different applications and methods, contribute more applications and methods to your origins, then it is correct. After tasting the international spirit, it is always nice to return to the homeland and contribute to the benefit of your community. However if you feel more comfortable continuing to work abroad, then there is no obstacle to do so.

The Project that has been developed in the scope of TÜBİTAK COVID-19 Turkey Platform and Prof. Dr. Serdar Durdağı, Head of Department of Basic Medical Units and Biophysics, School of Medicine, Bahçeşehir University, contributing as the executive and Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Güzel, Head of the Department of Medical Pharmacology and Drug Discovery and Development Center Director, School of Medicine, Istanbul Medipol University, as the coordinator researcher, created new hopes for the COVID-19 battle. In the project that has been started with Phase-2 studies, it was shown with the preclinical studies that the molecular called Montekulast prevents the virus from going in the cell and reproduces within the cell. The preclinical studies have started in the scope of TÜBİTAK COVID-19 Turkey Platform and Bahçeşehir University Scientific Research Project (BAP) with the contributions of more than 30 researchers and scholars from Bahçeşehir University (BAU), TÜBİTAK MAM, Istanbul Medipol University and Koç University.
