Housed in a Gilded Age Beaux-Arts mansion, the Neue Galerie offers a comprehensive look at 19th-century German and Austrian art and design. Although it is smaller than some other institutions on the Upper East Side, the gallery boasts an extensive collection that includes paintings, furniture, sculptures, and photography. One of the most renowned pieces in the collection is Gustav Klimt's Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, which has been part of the gallery since 2006. Additionally, the rotating exhibits that open throughout the year aim to highlight lesser-known artists across various mediums.
