Researchers coined the term holiday heart syndrome after noting spikes in atrial fibrillation during December and January, often linked to binge drinking. Combined with high-sodium foods, stress, and less exercise, excess alcohol can strain the heart and blood vessels.
PCPs should watch for signs of impaired circulation that patients may dismiss as “holiday fatigue,” including new leg pain with walking, nonhealing foot wounds, limb color or temperature changes, and sudden numbness or weakness. http://ms.spr.ly/6186to7pq
