Types of Synovial Joints
🔄 (a) Pivot Joint
Allows rotation around an axis
📍 Example: Between C1 (atlas) and C2 (axis) vertebrae (rotation of the head)
🔩 (b) Hinge Joint
Permits flexion and extension, like a door hinge
📍 Example: Elbow joint
🪑 (c) Saddle Joint
Allows movement in two directions with more range than a hinge
📍 Example: Thumb joint (trapezium and first metacarpal)
📏 (d) Plane (Gliding) Joint
Allows sliding or gliding movements
📍 Example: Between tarsal bones of the foot
🌀 (e) Condyloid Joint
Enables movement in two planes: flexion-extension and side-to-side
📍 Example: Wrist joint (radiocarpal)
🏐 (f) Ball-and-Socket Joint
Allows movement in all directions, including rotation
📍 Examples: Shoulder and Hip joints
