On today's International Day of Tolerance, we remember and look to peace laureate Martin Luther King Jr.

At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the then-youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. He was awarded the peace prize “for his non-violent struggle for civil rights for the Afro-American population.”

On 14 October 1964, King was woken up by a phone call to his Atlanta hotel room. The phone call was from his wife, Coretta Scott King, who told him that he had received the peace prize.

In his Nobel Prize lecture, King said called nonviolence a "powerful and just weapon" that cuts without wounding.
