Patients often ask what the ideal age for a facelift is, and the answer depends on the degree of facial laxity.

One advantage of undergoing a deep plane facelift earlier is that it can allow for more natural, defined results by repositioning facial structures before changes become more advanced.

The result is often perceived as a refreshed, well-rested appearance rather than an obvious surgical change.

1.5 months after a subtle yet powerful refresh

Our patient is in her 40s and was beginning to notice early laxity in her lower face and neck. She wanted a result that looked natural, elegant and long-lasting.

She is now 6 weeks post deep plane facelift and necklift with fat transfer and lip lift. She is still in the healing phase, but the improvement is already clearly visible: a smoother neck, better jawline definition, and a more youthful, rested appearance.

Many patients are hesitant about more “invasive” procedures like the deep plane facelift, thinking that the more advanced the surgery, the more unnatural or distorted the result will be. In reality, it’s often the opposite.

With the deep plane approach, we reposition the deeper facial and neck structures, which is where most of the laxity actually occurs; instead of just pulling the skin. This allows for more natural, longer-lasting results compared to superficial lifts that only tighten the skin without addressing the real cause of aging.

This is 1 week after a deep plane facelift and necklift with fat transfer.

Compared to Day 4 (peak swelling), you can already see that swelling is going down and bruising is much lighter. At this stage, discomfort is usually minimal, drains have been removed, and most patients are already feeling much better.

Healing is still in progress, but this is typically the point when patients start to feel more comfortable and less anxious. Results will continue to refine over the coming weeks as swelling continues to subside.

This video was taken immediately after the procedure, and you can already notice a subtle reduction in cheek fullness compared to his pre-operative photos. Swelling usually lasts about 7 days, and the results will continue to gradually develop over the following weeks to months.

Day 10 post-op

This patient underwent a deep plane facelift and necklift, combined with a lip lift and subtle fat transfer.

She presented with early facial aging; rather than waiting for advanced laxity, a maintenance facelift allows us to restore definition, soften early changes, and preserve a natural appearance.

Because she was showing early signs of aging, the goal was not transformation, but natural refreshment, preserving her features.

At 10 days post-op, swelling continues to improve and contours are already settling. Refinement will continue over the next several weeks and months.

This is day 4 after surgery, which is typically the peak day for swelling and bruising following a facelift and necklift.
At this stage, inflammation is expected and completely normal.

Even so, you can already start to see the new jawline, neck contour, and facial definition taking shape underneath the swelling.

These photos are shared to help future patients understand what peak recovery looks like, not just the final healed result. Healing is a process and this is part of it.
