Ketamine Boosts Social Pleasure and Empathy in Depressed Individuals

New research published in the American Journal of Psychiatry suggests that ketamine, a medication used to treat treatment-resistant depression, can also enhance social pleasure and empathetic behaviors. This discovery provides evidence that ketamine may have entactogenic effects.
Empathy, a crucial component of social interaction, involves understanding, sharing, and responding to the emotions of others. Disordered empathy is a common feature in several mental health conditions, including depression.
