Welcome to Lydia Wong’s Mastery School of Tai Chi & Eastern Arts,
Acamapixtle Calle, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. www.sanmigueltaichi.com
My classes are designed to give everyone permission to be a beginner and experience key aspects of Tai Chi, Yoga and Qigong, all mind-body exercises rooted in Asian traditions. Tai Chi Qigong has a long history and has been influenced by martial arts, traditi
onal Chinese medicine and philosophy. There are many different styles of Qigong Yoga and Tai Chi. The one I have chosen to pursue is focused primarily on the cultivation, movement and management of energy (Qi Vital Life Force). Each class will help students strengthen and stretch the body, practice breathing and learn how to experience a more relaxed state. There will be very little discussion or talking because we are learning a new language, an unspoken language of rhythm, flow, smooth and subtle movements. To learn the movements, students follow me, watch what I do and join me. If movements are difficult or painful for you, please only do what is comfortable for you. Our goal is very slow, fluid, small moves done with control and intention. If you practice the movements we do in class and then also practice on your own, you will become stronger, more flexible and more confident about your balance. At the beginning of each class we will warm up to music to ensure you are ready for more involved movements. The sequence you will follow is not random and I change the specific way we warm up for each class to keep it interesting. But be sure, we are building your knowledge of a new language, very much as you would learn a spoken language. For example, you will learn basic steps and arm movements of Tai Chi, which in the future can be choreographed into a series of steps. It is like learning vocabulary and then forming sentences. It is the ancient process used over thousands of years by Tai Chi masters to impart skills and understanding by movement. Open your mind and body to a new experience and you will feel the Qi!
