Down by the well there is a coconut grove and lime orchard. A large palapa serves as dormitory, kitchen, yoga and meditation spaces. We are putting in a shade house behind the kitchen for abundant greens. There are 4 lots available for people to build personal homes and participate in the community. The main practice of the ashram is 10 day silent retreats, starting with Open Focus meditations the
n moving into Vipassana practices (practices attributed to Gautama Buddha). These include walking meditations and mindful eating. The yoga/movement programs focus on breath awareness: how full, firm exhales generate alignment and support natural posture. Breath-orchestrated movement. And the deepest work: awareness and movement of the attention to foster sensitivity and perception that entreats deepest change. Like everywhere in the region the land was overly forested and the upper canopies have not been able to regrow. A collaboration with a permaculture group is underway to create a system of ponds and canals to retain rainfall on the land and facilitate reforestation and revitalizing the soil.
