My name is Jessica and I have been a licensed massage therapist since October of 2010. I received my education through Anthem College in Aurora, CO. Shortly after graduating from the one year massage program at Anthem I decided to further my professional standard and take the exam for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). To be certified by NCBTMB not only means that one has demonstrated mastery of core skills in their profession, but also that they uphold the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics of the organization. In short, when you choose a Massage Therapist who is part of the NCBTMB community you can relax, knowing that you are in the capable, knowledgeable hands of a true professional. One of my favorite things about massage therapy is that no two massages are exactly the same, even if they are performed by the same person! There are so many different types of massage and philosophies about massage and its effects on the body that each therapist has a unique background that shapes and continues to change their style of massage. So what is my massage philosophy? I believe that the body should be treated as a whole entity as opposed to piece to piece. This includes the tangible body and the intangible spirit. My hands are my ears when I'm doing a massage. Typically I can hear just where my clients tension is held, or hear which muscle groups are restricting the range of motion in a shoulder. I've been told by many of my clients in the past that my massage is very slow, deliberate, and intuitive. Though I am not afraid to use deep pressure on tight unrelenting muscles, I am not an advocate for "no pain no gain". While sometimes a little discomfort is necessary to work out a stubborn knot, I want my clients to be sighing after the massage, not crying. I use range of motion a lot in my massage to help lubricate stiff joints, stretch and warm the muscles, and relax the nervous system. Trigger point therapy is another very effective, though sometimes slightly painful tool that I sometimes during my massages. I find that many times Trigger point therapy when used on the subscapular muscle (that's the one that's underneath the shoulder blade and is a crucial part of the rotator cuff) can dramatically increase the range of motion in a "frozen" shoulder and likewise decrease pain and discomfort overall with multiple massage sessions. Stretching is one technique that not only do I use during a massage, but also strongly encourage my client to use post massage. Stretching releases endorphins into the body, making one feel happier and more relaxed. I often suggest and demonstrate stretches for my clients that they can do to maintain healthy, flexible muscles in between massages. Overall my massage is a unique blend of Eastern and Western philosophies and techniques. It is both therapeutic and relaxing. I am able to work deep into the muscles which are not easily accessible while also being gentle and mindful of my client's comfort. I love helping people through Massage Therapy, and I believe that it shows through my work on the massage table.
