Nerds on ice

Sorry been a long time since I have updated.

2015-2016 was an exciting time as I had been given the opportunity to live out a professional fantasy of working in Pro Sports.
I was hired to be part of an innovative and unique Sports Performance Program implemented by my physio friend Oliver Finlay for the NHL franchise Buffalo Sabres and their affiliate team the Rochester Americans.
I worked mainly in the areas of Acute Injury Management and Injury Prevention to help develop programs and protocols in combination with the multi-disciplinary team consisting of Physios, Strength & Conditioning coaches, Athletic Trainers, Sports Psychologists, Exercise Scientists and Nutritionists.
There were many challenges putting together a new performance model in a sport steeped with tradition. I learned a lot especially about sport culture, leadership, exercise science and technology. Plus I got a pretty extensive tour of hockey in North America.
And of course there were some great people that I got to live, work and play with that made the experience memorable and are now part of the family.

So after a year of working Pro Sports I have been able to check another box off the Life Experience List and am looking forward to the next adventure

In the meantime I am taking a few months off to: work on my handyman skills and fix up my house by the lake in New York State; explore Lake Ontario on my little 18' sailboat; and roadtrip through the Appalachian Mountains. And the big bonus is my family is only 2 hrs away and will be looking forward to lots of my mom's home cooking again!!

Had a great time working with the Mexican National Stand Up Paddle Team during Works Cup Finals in Sayulita, Mexico. Congrats on 2 podiums and an exciting week.

Hola De Italia

Now in Pila Italy and the snow is a little better at 2100meters elevation. We are in the corner where Switzerland, France and Italy meet. From Pila pic 2&3 you can see 2 famous mountains. The tallest in Europe Mt Blanc pic4 and one of the most celebrated mountains to climb the Matterhorn pic1. Pic 5 is driving thru the Dolomites in Italy. Pic 6 is Kitzbuhel.

So far my team has had a slalom competition and a giant slalom competition in the past 2 weeks. They are 17-19yrs old and are mainly getting experience in Europe where it is far more competitive than North America. Im realizing they need to build their confidence and be able to put together a solid ski run from top to bottom. Easier said than done. I relate it to my golf game where you cant be good for just 12 holes and fall apart since the game is a total of 18 holes. Takes lots of focus endurance and practice!

Finally getting 2 days off snow after 2 weeks straight. Looking forward to some good pizza and pasta and spa time.

Next week France and Val d.'Isere and more snow!!!
