There are two main types of stroke: ischemic and hemorrhagic. Ischemic strokes are caused by blockages in blood vessels, while hemorrhagic strokes are caused by bleeding in the brain. A transient ischemic attack (TIA), sometimes called a mini-stroke, involves temporary blockage but does not cause lasting damage. 

Ischemic Stroke: 

Thrombotic Stroke:

A blood clot forms in a blood vessel within the brain, blocking blood flow. 

Embolic Stroke:

A blood clot or other debris travels from elsewhere in the body and gets lodged in a brain artery. 

Lacunar Stroke:

This type of stroke affects small blood vessels in the brain, often associated with hypertension and diabetes. 

Hemorrhagic Stroke:

Intracerebral Hemorrhage:

Bleeding occurs directly into the brain tissue due to a ruptured blood vessel. 

Subarachnoid Hemorrhage:

Bleeding occurs in the space between the brain and the skull, often caused by a ruptured aneurysm. 

Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA): 

Symptoms are similar to those of a stroke, but they resolve within 24 hours and cause no permanent damage, according to the CDC.

It is a warning sign of a potential future stroke and should be treated as a medical emergency.
