Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries are jam-packed with important nutrients that play a central role in heart health. Berries are also rich in antioxidants like anthocyanins, which protect against the oxidative stress and inflammation that contribute to the development of heart disease.
Tomatoes are low in calories and provide important nutrients like vitamin C and potassium. They're also rich in antioxidants—one called lycopene, responsible for tomatoes' characteristic color, is linked to several benefits, such as a reduced risk of heart disease and certain cancers and ease inflammation, boost our immune system, lower our cholesterol levels, and keep our blood from clotting.
Pineapples are also low in calories and rich in manganese, flavonoids and phenolic acids, two antioxidants that protect our cells from free radicals that can cause chronic disease and bromelain that has also been linked to reduced risk of cancer.
Manganese plays an essential role in the way our body metabolizes food, clots blood, and keeps our bones healthy.
Bananas contain essential nutrients that may enhance heart health, help manage blood pressure, and boost a person's mood, among other benefits. Eating bananas can help lower blood pressure and may reduce the risk of cancer.
Mangoes are a decent source of vitamin A, folate and are pretty high in fiber, which is beneficial for colon cancer prevention, heart disease and weight control.
Plums and prunes are high in polyphenol antioxidants, which may reduce inflammation and lower the risk of several chronic diseases. It's also a good source of fiber and have been shown to reduce adiponectin levels. Both characteristics may benefit blood sugar control.
Watermelon is rich in an amino acid called citrulline that may help move blood through our body and can lower our blood pressure. Our heart also enjoys the perks of all the lycopene watermelon contains. Studies show that it may lower our risk of heart attacks.
Unsweetened, pure cranberry juice is a good source of both vitamin C, E, K1, B6 and copper..
