🌿BENEFITS OF TANGERINE
Citrus reticulata
Tangerine has a fresh & bright scent. It is cold-pressed from the peel and is indigenous to Brazil and Mexico.
Like most citrus oils, it is wonderful for neutralizing odors, clearing the mind, and uplifting the environment of the home.
Unlike many citrus oils, tangerine is not phototoxic. ☀️
I’m going to jump in and chat about ARs (reactions) & antioxidant benefits of the citrus for a hot sec.
𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗜 𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿, I used EOs incorrectly and experienced adverse effects. I’m actually grateful that I did, because it proved to me that while EOs are safe when used correctly and have many supportive qualities, they most definitely can cause ARs when not used appropriately.
Before I became a Certified Aromatherapist, I was deep into an MLM company and became a distributor. I bought their books, listened to training classes, & planned to hit ranks.
Instructions in my first kit said to put lemon EO in my water daily. Thankfully, my science-senses kicked in.
It’s basic, right? Oils and water don’t mix.
I’ve heard the argument that EOs aren’t truly oil (another discussion) but what they definitely are is lipophilic, meaning that they dissolve into lipids or fats only. They never have and never will be able to dissolve into H2O.
Because EOs are highly concentrated, they both work (yay!!) and they have the ability to cause irritation when used incorrectly.
𝗢𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀... a phenomenal way to get citrus antiox. benefits is internally.
However, it is not recommended to consume EOs on a regular basis. There are many factors to first consider. They are known to cause mucus membrane irritation when improperly diluted. This includes mouth ulcers (which I have personally experienced from EOs - not fun!), esophageal ulcers, stomach irritation, etc.)
Sometimes the best and safest way to get internal benefits is via a supplement, herb, or in this case, eating the fresh fruit!
The difficulty is that the antiox. in citrus fruits are highest in the peels.
So… Pro Tip: Add the zest to soups, salads, and baked goods or plunk the peels into your H2O after squeezing the juice. 🍋
