Dear Parents, did you know?
Axial length is like a “measuring ruler” for the eyeball – the distance from the cornea to the retina.
During normal development, a child’s axial length grows gradually and vision stabilizes accordingly.
📏 Axial Length Directly Affects Vision – and Eye Health!
• When axial length is normal, light focuses precisely on the retina for clear vision.
• When it grows too long, light focuses in front of the retina, causing blurred distance vision – the key mechanism of myopia.
• More importantly: a longer axial length increases the risk of sight-threatening complications in later life, including:
▸ Myopic macular degeneration
▸ Retinal detachment
▸ Glaucoma
▸ Cataract
Just like an unfocused camera lens produces blurry images –
an excessively long eyeball makes a child’s world gradually go “out of focus” and sets the stage for future eye disease.
🏥 Why Measure Axial Length Early?
At Vision Infinity Optometrist, we recommend regular axial length monitoring, especially for children with short-sightedness.
With professional instruments, we obtain precise axial length data, then combine with factors like:
✓ Age
✓ Hyperopia reserve
✓ Visual behavior
…to scientifically assess myopia risk and design a personalised eye protection plan for every child.
✅ Early detection + early intervention = clearer vision today + healthier eyes tomorrow.
At Vision Infinity Optometrist, we offer evidence based myopia management solutions including:
* Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) Lenses: Worn overnight to temporarily reshape the cornea, providing clear daytime vision without glasses while effectively controlling myopia progression.
* Defocus Lenses: Specially designed optics reduce peripheral hyperopic defocus to slow axial elongation and control myopia development.
* Soft Multifocal Contact Lenses: Features peripheral defocus design to focus light in front of the retina, inhibiting axial growth while correcting vision and guiding proper eye development.
At Vision Infinity Optometrist, we're committed to delivering premium eye care services to prevent and control myopia. Don't let myopia limit your child's potential or allow blurred vision to become normal.
